I'd comment on this topic over in the main thread, but I don't have that capability.

I bet this same dude above was predicting the Kings to 'regress' this season but yet now he's laughing that they don't have a better record than last year at this time. (lolz, spit out my coffee)

I think people also forget that we had absolute dogshit goaltending for the first 30 games this year (not an issue last year) and imagine what our record might look like if that wasn't the case.

Yeah, last year was such perfect health and everything went the Kings way. Comparing this year to last year is not fair to TM for this year's performance. LOL. Seriously, you have sunk to a new low. I'm actually embarrassed for you at this point. Saying anything else is just a waste of time/energy.

I think people also forget we had the Danault line single-handedly winning us games last season and imagine what their record might have looked like if that wasn't the case. See how that works?
Dumb argument. You can't say "imagine how much better we'd have been if we'd won" and act like that's a good point.

Same record as last year, except this year who is contributing, VIlardi, Byfield, etc, you know the KIDS you wanted to contribute, Kaliyev will get back there once he's fully back.....

IF we had solid goaltending, average goaltending from the year on, does anyone think we aren't with a BETTER record? Really?

We should be expecting a better record this year than we had last year. For starters, our #1 defenseman was out for most of last season. Last season's rookies are no longer rookies. We've taken huge steps forward on offense and yet we have the same record we did at this point last year. So what the hell happened? We knew we had some holes on defense and in net and did nothing to correct that.

This is a failure, not a success.

Vilardi and Kaliyev on the 4th line, Spence and Bjornfot not getting a sniff, Clarke beating up on children, dressing 4 RHD on a nightly basis, three 3rd string goalies, Byfield still trying to figure things out, Turcotte still injured, yeah...

But Fiala's sexy moves that have made absolutely zero difference to the team's results are somehow painting a rosier picture in some minds - which just goes to show how much some people misinterpret more offense for better hockey.

The same clown show that all predicted the Kings to regress this year is now scratching their heads on why this same team isn't leading the Western Conference.

Holy shit, the ignorance.

@Axl Rhoadz Why can’t you post on the main board? I found it strange that everyone and their mom is lambasting Todd and you are no where to be seen. I even tagged you since it seems like it’s your bread and butter to defend him.

You care and have way more time on your hands than I do. Have fun.

You don't think our leading scorer has contributed to some team success? The team was bottom 3 in goal saves above expected for the first 30 games of the season.

The proof is in the pudding. The teams record is exactly the same as last year at this point and last year‘s team was fighting a lot more injuries. No one is saying Fiala sucks. Only that he hasn’t made the team better as a whole. The offense is better, but the defense is worse. People tried simplifying everything into just needing one scorer. Just like now they’re simplifying everything into needing one LHD (Chychrun). It’s more complex than that.

Also, advanced stats are garbage. I can’t think of anything more ridiculous than “expected goals” and “expected saves”. They’re as bad as adjusting a players goal total for era and then saying that’s how many goals they would score in another era. Again, not that simple.

You made this thread because you’re busy? Maybe rather than attempt to agitate actual Kings fans with your bad faith arguments, you can spend your “limited” amount of time annoying fans that think Todd sucks. Seems like time better spent. Just find it funny you can’t seem to carry that energy over there. Maybe you’re afraid of getting lambasted by the collective that actually know that Todd is at best a mediocre coach. Only in your eyes and a select few he isn’t which is why you hide here.

I think a better question to ask is if the team is more suited to win a first round series.. id say its about the same given the plusses on offense and the moderate decline at D and with copley about the same as JQ last year. If Blake spent on D and G instead of Fiala we may have been slightly better because Vilardi really started to contribute and we have plenty of forwards who given more chances may have stepped up. Im still fine with how it is... just obvious what needs patched.

I think the answer to that question relies on March 4th.

Ok, let's simplify then. Quick and Petersen together have accounted for 39 out of 57 games this season, and they've averaged a save percentage under 87%. If the team had just gotten average goaltending (like they've gotten from Copley) during those 39 games, they'd be running away with the division AND conference. I would agree though that the overall team defense has slipped this year, especially at the beginning of the year and I think you can attribute that in large part to putting Durzi: a second year pro on his off side where he's never played before on the second pair. That one is on Blake to not at least find a bandaid during the offseason to not put Durzi and the team in that unfair position. Also, the fact that Blake prioritized Sean Walker over playing either Durzi on his correct side or getting Spence his deserved spot on the big club has been bewildering.
