I cant imagine they let Larkin get away.
Pipe dream. In the rare occurrence he doesn’t sign with Detroit this summer I wouldn’t hesitate to offer 1st + Lysell (or Lohrei) + DeBrusk. Not sure that comes close regardless. I’m a big fan of new DeBrusk but what will he ask summer of 2024? Will he be a UFA or RFA? More valuable trade chip if he’s an RFA.

Anyhow back to reality. Acciari/ Bjugstad/ Bortuzzo/ Schenn… depth with some size and energy. D depth is crucial. I’d look to add one dman for each side.

I get he can only be retained once more by a team since Edmonton has retained 12.5% already. The thing I'm unclear on is Calgary trades him straight up to Anh for a 7th round pick. Anh trades him to Vegas......can Anh retain more than 50% of his salary? Maybe you answered that in the above, I'm just confused by the 15% aggregate of the salary cap piece.
50% is the max a team can retain.

The 15% = teams can retain salary for up to 3 players. The 3 combined can not exceed 15% of the cap.

Who we ought to deal for:

Hey man, because of your suggestion, I'll be checking Shoresy for real tonight. Watched the very beginning of the first episode last night (the talk show hockey discussion -- sic) and I'm all in.

Thanks for this great suggestion. Just the thing whilst hunkering down 'midst the "Arctic blast" here in Watertown,

:thumbu:

All the concern about Larkin/cap/cost to acquire/etc? Worth it. The dude is gold. None of the JT Miller shit insta-regret. Larkin is three-zone stellar, natural leader, cornerstone player.

The problem isn’t the cost to acquire/retain. It’s that he doesn’t play for Arizona or Buffalo or Vancouver or Ottawa. He plays for Detroit for Steve Yzerman. Stevey Y is no idiot, has vision for his team and a track record (while young) of building proven winning rosters with cores of players like Dylan Larkin.

Don’t let these rumours of contract disputes fool you. Larkin will not be leaving the Red Wings.
I agree with you , but let me say this there is always the slightest of slight chance that something could change, so I would hope Sweeney keeps his finger on the pulse and be prepared for such a scenario .....................just in case.......

I don't want Chychrun.

Oft injured,

On August 3, 2017, Chychrun underwent knee surgery after suffering an injury during offseason training.[16] On November 28, he was assigned to the Coyotes' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Tucson Roadrunners for conditioning purposes.[17] Chychrun made his NHL season debut on December 3, scoring a goal in a 3–2 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights.[18] He was ruled out for the remainder of the season on April 4 after suffering a lower-body injury.[19] He finished the season with four goals and 14 points in 50 games.

Chychrun underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL in the 2018 offseason.[20][21] Prior to his season debut on November 13, the Coyotes signed Chychrun to a six-year, $27.6 million contract extension.[22] He finished the season with five goals and 20 points in 53 games. (wiki)

I have not seen much of him, honestly, and many here know much more than me, but it doesn't feel right.

Two cents.

For Larkin I would trade 2023 1st + Lysell or Lohrei Detroit's option + Beecher + one of Nosek or Smith cap reasons, if they really wanted a top 9 roster guy back, I would trade Coyle before DeBrusk. If they added Larkin, a 4th line guy like Jeannot and upgrade the D with Gavrikov over Grizz, that would be as solid a team you could have.

Yea but lucic is good for nose surgeons. Players think twice to run at dk or mr selke . That's extremely important come playoff time.
Lucic was on the ice when Cooke hit Savard. Cooke didn't think twice. Having a goon is good for retribution after a bad hit... but they don't stop a cheap shot artist from being a cheap shot artist.

Pointing to one incident where it didn't deter a bad hit does not mean no bad hits have ever been deterred. This has been pointed out to you ad infinitum, yet you still insist on posting the above.

Bottom line, the players themselves say it is a deterrent. I'll accept that over the opinion of some anti-fighting zealot all day and twice on Sunday.

Which Bruins player has said that there are hits that they didn't throw because of someone on the opposition?

But to put this back on topic.... the bruins aren't trading for Lucic. His contract is stupid and he can't play and other than nostalgia by some there's zero logic to adding him when other players could actually help the team.

Zac Rinaldo was quoted as saying exactly that. As far as deterrence is concerned, I give you exhibit A:

The video isn't at all relevant. If you said "Get a fighter and non-fighters on other teams won't drop the gloves with them." I'd agree. But I don't think that's a rampant problem that needs to be solved "Let's add Lucic so that Shayne Gostisbehere won't fight Lucic after Lucic hits him." is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. The point was to try and stop cheap shots against Bergeron in the playoffs. I don't think cheap shots against Bergeron in the playoffs is a big concern. And Frolik not fighting Miller after FROLIK gets hit really isn't on point at all.
But since this is a trade thread I won't comment any more on the issue in this thread.

Larkin has been on their radar and being scouted since the start of the season. If he can be had at the deadline towards signing in the future I think that is the homerun move that is also better than a Horvat trade.
Responding more to the Globe article than the comment above, more scoring is a “nice to have” item for us right now. Last I checked, we were already tops in the league in GF. We need depth on D, especially D with an ability to counter a heavy forecheck and get the puck out of the zone. The three losses all flowed from various levels of inability to do that. It won’t matter if you have three 50-goal scorers up front if you are stuck in your own end all game and can’t get them the puck. If you are going to trade an impactful JDB, who is very productive and cost controlled, you had better be bringing back something awesome on D.
