Not sure exactly where this team would be without Sorokin, but it wouldn't be in a playoff position.
If Varlamov were starting instead it would not be a huge falloff

They are playing to their strengths. We have the best tandem in the league (look at Campbell’s numbers and with a 4-yr deal!).

And we’re scoring a lot more goals. The trade off is we’ll rely on our goalies to hold up. You and I always talked about evolving. When the playoffs come around they’ll tighten it up, like how they played tonight.

I never got to see Billy Smith play, but ive been watching this team since the early 90's. Sorokin is the best goalie in that time period to wear an isles jersey, and its not remotely close. Kid is gonna win some hardware in his career. Hope he spends his entire career here.
seriously.......This guy fully delivers on what we thought he could be when we drafted him.

following him in russia every year, putting up insane numbers over there, and its translated almost perfectly to NHL numbers.

On edge of my seat all game because #97 is so explosive. Ilya is unreal but a really solid team game all around. Special mention- The JGP of tonight is the guy Lou Traded for. I love the smarts in his game. The first half of last season he clearly hadn't recovered from his playoff injury.

Tuned to Sportsnet 360 (Oilers feed) just before the puck drop. While the Oilers had more chances in the first 2 periods, great for the Isles to counter attack, especially on special teams. But how the Isles generally sat back in the 3rd being up 3-0 was uncomfortable, along with the parade to the penalty box. Obviously Ilya Sorokin was the No.1 Star with 50 saves, his career high. Butt I found odd in the stands, especially around the benches, there were a lot of empty seats late in the 3rd, but filled up as the clock ticked down to zero.

Billy was on another level in the post season. Best I've ever seen series in series out although Parent and Dryden certainly had Smithian type series

Ken Dryden had an 80-32-0 record in 112 games with a goals against average of 2.41 and a save percentage of .915 in the playoffs in his career.

Billy Smith had a record of 88-36-0 in 132 games with a goals against average of 2.72 and a save percentage of .905 in the playoffs in his career.

Bernie Parent was 38-33-0 in 71 games with a goals against average of 2.44 and a save percentage of .916 in the playoffs in his career.

and I would say there are more good goalies in playoffs....like

Patrick Roy had a record of 151-94-0-0 in 247 games with a goals against average of 2.30 and a save percentage of .918 in the playoffs in his career.

Keep banking these points. Sorokin, looking calm and composed all night. Capedes, look who is #1 in assists in the NHL right now.
2nd biggest fan now affectionately calls him Capades

He says "Capades is right. Look at this guy skate. Watch what he does"!

Its incredible. He is so quick from post to post, always in great position, fantastic rebound control, and his glove is great as well. It seems like the only way he gets scored on is if he cant see the puck at all, and even than its more likely that the puck will just hit him. Hes absolutely a top 3 goalie, he may even be the best goalie in the league. Love watching this kid play.

Give Smith Roy’s equipment before we compare eras.

he has 0 idea what she's saying, and it's hilarious.

could you imagine that shit tho if the roles were reversed? you have some lady taking to you in russian gibberish, and you just give the standard answers in the best russian you know

I'm surprised he did the interview, fair play to him for coming out in front of thousands of people and speaking a language he is still learning. That takes some courage. Stellar performance from Ilya tonight.

How long before Lambert starts getting some props?
Not long

I've read some post game stuff from him. He seems to have that "I don't give a shit, I'm just here to win" mentality. Serves him pretty well

Much to process in that one.
Vintage Pelech-Pulock on McDavid.
Holmstrom looked very comfortable at level.
Ilya is a freak. His first big save was ridiculous.
JGP had a great game. Parise again good.
Aho showing how to one-time it!
Refs were smoking.
