Did Frost play today?
He had a nice defensive play, but any line with him centering it seemed to go nowhere.
Three lines with him
w Farabee & TK, 4:07, xGF 22.51%
w Michkov & Tippett 3:03, xGF 0.00%
w Michkov & Foerster, 3:55, xGF 0.00%

Sounds like he's received terrible coaching if he's become this bad with heavy coach intervention.

When coaching makes you worse, and the coach publicly confirms he knows he isnt fair to the player and will not change, is that good development? This is a straightforward yes or no question.

Against some teams you can get a win with one good period and they did.

The Michkov goal was maybe a little taste of what the future might hold. That was quick, fluid and a thing of beauty.

Now is it my imagination or is Risto actually playing pretty good?
Chicago is not exactly a team I would use as a measuring stick for performance. While he is not as terrible as he used to be, still not worth the price in assets it took to get him, nor the contract that he signed.

Let’s focus on Frost while the 6 million dollar man looked like shit -2 no shots and a couple of giveaways that lead to goals.

I would love to know the actual quote in Russian, and how it was filtered in translation, specifically what was meant by "cold blooded." Could have been an even better quote in Russian.

Here is the interview:

My translation from 1:57:
"you must respect every moment in the game you have and you must have a killer instinct and finish it every time".

"Cold blooded" was a literal word by word translation from Russian.

In my opinion the best way to translate it - "killer instinct".
"Stay cool calm and collected" - is also good enough.

P.s.
Also, there is an English phrase "cold blooded murderer" that implies killing someone without emotions. Typically because emotions are in a way of doing it. In other words describing someone who "acts like a professional" killer. So "acting like a pro" is also good enough translation here.

I think a lot of people across the Hockey world would agree with you.....
Neither one really impressed me yesterday, and they were both playing against bad teams....

Also, To get the win they had to play 4 of their D-men 20+ min, including one that just came back from injury. Gran seems solid why did he only get 12 min? Also, Seeler with only 13; he seems to not be getting as many minutes. Is it possible his contract was yet another mistake in a long line of mistakes that has spanned several GMs?

Torts praised his defensive play and competitiveness.
The idea that Torts dislikes Frost isn't based in reality.
Torts has repeatedly praised Frost for improving defensively.

Torts is frustrated with Frost b/c he can't translate his skill in production, he doesn't have the motor of TK or the killer instinct of Michkov. I don't know if it's simply a matter of being a half second slow ("almost making plays") or just not wired that way.

I wonder how Briere views Frost. Briere was smaller than Frost but with a similar skill set, took him to age 24 to win a starting job (in a time where it was much tougher for smaller forwards) - so is he patient with a potential late bloomer or does he see a player who lacks the intangibles that made Briere a top NHL player?

Bedard is shooting 5%, is almost a year younger, already won a Calder, and his 2nd leading teammate is Ryan Donato. Must we do this?
Six months younger.
Jett is eight months younger than Buium. Will we use the same standard comparing the two?

Bedard should be able to stay at center, which would make him more valuable.
If he has to move to LW permanently, then MM may turn out to be the better player.

Given in the very first paragraph of quoted post you are saying a claim is not based in reality, do you have actual proof of the quoted opinion?
Not a "I think" or any other conjecture. Straight quotes or other proofs supporting this. Otherwise this screams hypocrisy. Again.

In this quote you have a very definitive idea of what Tortorella thinks of Frost, and in the following one you wonder what Briere thinks of said player. Eh?

Torts has said repeatedly that he's happy with the progress Frost has made defensively.
He's also said he wants him to be more aggressive. Frustrated with his lack of production.
I don't know how to find past press talks, but I've heard this repeatedly this season.

His press talks are scary this season, Torts has been reasonable, patient, answered questions and hasn't tried to strangle a "reporter" yet. Mellowing out in his old age. They're still entertaining, and he's still honest to a fault, but he's become a bit more circumspect.

Torts is the one who squashed any playoff talk in preseason.
He knows this team needs more talent, and has a lot of young players who need another year or two of development.

I enjoy how you can’t even be honest about counting months (December to July vs. December to August). It speaks volumes that you have to fudge even the most minor of factual details.

No one brought up Buium, who is now top 10 in NCAA points. I’ll explain simply why I won’t use the same standard: Bedard is one of the 10 most purely skilled hockey players on the planet. Luchanko is 20th in OHL points/game. For your argument to hold, Luchanko would have to be besting Buium’s draft season. This is tangential and a waste of my time but I’ll repeat what I said this past summer: extra months of development aren’t magical and need a reason to matter.
