This says he faces the better competition the most, actually.
EDIT: I see it now. He faces good D, but lower-end forwards. That's odd. Still, his TOI is closer to first pair than third pair.

From 2012-2017 he played the third most minutes on the Blues, with over 2,300 more minutes than the guy in fourth place.
He's literally never been a third-pairing defenseman. It's made up.

According to Dave Maloney on the Bleeding Blueshirts podcast this morning the Stars are playing with 7 regulars out of the lineup. Not sure if that's the reason for this but thought I'd pass it along.

He plays against the bottom 6 and the biggest discrepancy is against the teams TOP 3 players. 60%OZS. He's sheltered

Shattenkirk leads the Rangers in shot differential, is second behind ADA in even strength +/-, and leads the Rangers in expected +/-.
Sure we would all like more points but he's not getting 1PP time, so
For some ridiculous reason you have one of the best pp qbs in the world on your team and don’t play him first team mins. Just as ridiculous as putting Zibanejad on the wrong side of the ice for the same pp.

I like DeAngelo getting defensive usage. Quinn is a thinker.
Granted, I've been critical of Shattenkirk not being used on PP1 but Pionk has been hot and I get why he's doing it.
The more important point is, if Shattenkirk isn't getting those minutes, then let's not crucify him. He's been as advertised at even strength. No, he's not going to take the hardest minutes nor am I asking the Rangers to give him those minutes, but he's good at what he does, and he's closer to being a f***ing linebacker than he is a third-pairing defenseman.
