I really hope Donskov isn't taking his roster-building advice from Scott Salmond when it's time to put this team together.

At the end of the day, Donskov's reputation is the one on the line if Canada falls short. Salmond has been involved for years, and Canada's results in international tournaments haven't exactly inspired confidence.

In any other industry, if an executive oversaw a year (just 1 year) of declining performance and a 50% collapse in results, there would be serious accountability. that CEO would be out on his ass. Yet in Hockey Canada, the same decision-makers seem to keep getting chances despite repeated disappointments.

At some point, fresh ideas and a new approach are needed. Recycling the same people, the same thinking, and the same roster-building philosophy is a big reason Canada keeps finding itself in the same position.

Donskov was an assistant last year (2026) and the roster turned out fine, no glaring omissions. I ultimately didn’t love his utilisation at the WHC and to echo others think MacDougall would be the best option

Reschny, Malholtra, O’Brien, Cootes, Desnoyers, Schmidt, Belchetz, Lawrence, Lafreniere, Dagenais, Valentini, Joseph, Zhilkin, Mbuyi.

Could see both ruck bros being notable omissions along with Veilleux, Jacobsson. Lin and Huang as omissions on D

Defence lots of guys from western Canada. Carels, Rudolph, Verhoeff, DuPont, Smith. Villeneuve from Quebec and then Reid

Goaltending pretty clearly Ivankovic’s net to lose. Think we should absolutely see Beckman there. 3rd goalie I wonder if they go with Gavin Betts who has been the goalie at 17s/u18s etc. won’t play probably at all but there for the experience. Him or Jovanovski the goalie for the mem cup hosts in ‘27

If you meant Tarin Smith he's already 20. There's a lot of Smith's but I can't think any others who could make it.
I agree on Cootes being there. He might make the Canucks but as a rebuilding Canadian team they're 100% loaning him.

Martin & McKenna would be big adds, and could very well be there. Hopefully we see Joseph take a bigger step than his U18's....I think him & Jacobsson aren't ready yet. Preston before them.
Would be cool to see Lawrence & Zhilkin together again.
Add Peyton Kettles to the hunt for a spot on D
