2026 UFA targets

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Has there been any talk of Dallas offering a sweetener to take the Seguin cap hit off their salary cap table? They have a second rounder in this draft and still have their first rounder for 2027.

Seguin has an NMC. I wouldn't waive to leave Dallas. I think he fails his physical and just goes on LTIR. Might be their eventual plan if they need the cap.

And burn a bridge with Jim Nill.
This is kind of interesting thought

Like both Nill and Yzerman have been predatory against the Red Wings organization, when they left the organization.

And now we should be treating guys outside of Detroit somewhat politely?

This is exactly the what is the organizational problem. Being too kind and safe.

Time to become aggressive and act like a winner again. Go nuclear if needed.

Maybe but dumping 4 first round picks to a LW with no centers and having to pay him upwards of 14M is not wise...

Would it be much different from Minny? I mean, I'm not really high on Minny, but they aren't exactly loaded at center, either. They make up for it with a lot of offense on the wings and quinn hughes. We don't have hughes, but we have Mo, and I might like our blueline more as a whole.

I'd prefer to build around a great 1-2 punch up the middle but it is what it is.

Minnesota is already a cup contender. We literally can't even get WC2. Our captain wants to leave... im not punting 5 first rounders away including the Faulk trade for a LW that is slow and has no great center to feed him.

I feel like the writing is on the wall for Kane to leave Detroit. He is entering his last act and I doubt he envisions any feel good endings here, considering the org is in disarray.

Maybe Chicago for nostalgia (since he has become used to missing playoffs anyways)? Or try and catch lightning in a bottle with the hometown Sabres… that would be a memorable closing act.

Agreed. TBH, I figured this would be the case as soon as the Larkin news broke.

Losing Kane and Larkin... That is 50 goals and 124 points departing an already low scoring team. I don't know how we can pick any path but rebuild 2.0.

Absolutely fine by me. He hasn't really helped us much anyhow. I think he only signed here to play with Cat and hang around with their families.

I won't lose any sleep over Kane as 1) he can be polarizing and 2) isn't a long term piece either way but losing our 5th most productive player is, yet another, setback for a team that is already losing it's top center.

Combined, Larkin and Kane scored 50 goals and 124 points. Losing that production for a team that was already bottom 3rd of the league in goals for is a significant setback.

I tend to disagree. He scored at a 68 point per 82 game clip the last 2 years. The team was basically carried by a great power play these last 2 years and he was a big part of that.

I get his complete and defensive play can be suspect. But overall he was a key offensive piece.

To add on here, If we replace Kane and Larkin with players that are 70% as productive, which if I'm being honest feels like an optimistic outcome, we'd have been the lowest scoring team in the entire league last season.
