Now replace Colton and Nichushkin with even players on ELCs.

We cannot swap Colton and Nichushkin ($10.125m) with $10.5m.
Are we're really talking about 1M or so? Ask them to retain more, trade someone else, sign Kulak for less, it doesn't matter how you find 1M. It's nothing.

Not that drastic.
Avs are currently at 16 players and 7M cap space.

If the Avs do move Nuke, they can probably spend in the 7-8M range max on their 2nd and 3rd pairing LD combined.
That would put them at 17 players and would leave them with roughly 5-6M for the last 5 spots.

You’ve said it’s unlikely teams retain millions of dollars for multiple years.

You want the Leafs to retain, what… $2m per season… for 4 years?

Is this realistic?

Either way, this is to show you how your team is still over the cap.

I’m putting the Leafs retaining $2m on Rielly. I’m playing all of Brindley, Hughes, and Ivan. Two league minimum healthy scratches.

Still over.

Who else are we trading? Roy? Play another rookie or some shitter like Kiviranta? How bad is the forward group then?

I don’t think we can spend as much on D as you’re suggesting.

The easiest way would be to trade Roy and give Drury his 1.675M qualifying offer.

Raddysh is going to get f***ing paid and then teams are going to figure out real quick "oh shit, we don't have Nikita Kucherov for him to play with." His five most common linemates:

Moser
Kucherov
Guentzel
Hagel
Point

Enjoy him!

I think Raddysh would actually be a great get for the Leafs. Overpaid sure, but he will make their team a lot better for the next few years.
