Nurse and Dubas connection is why I believe Pens are there.
Oh, he's a Soo Greyhound? Right. Also, maybe Skinner has put in a good word about the org?

I still don't get it. Wouldn't you rather be in San Jose, who ought to be interested just because they need D-men? Pittsburgh is going to be just an absolute burial ground for your career, when they are entering a rebuild.

Maybe he doesn’t give a shit about winning?

He’s owed $37,000,000 on his contract. Go make that somewhere with no expectation of competing.

Is San Jose expected to win? I don't think so, not for another 2-3 years IMO. And I guess this is just an opinion from a stupid foreigner, but I'd rather live in the Bay area than in Pittsburgh, even if Pit is closer to home in Hamilton.

They'll want to make the playoffs at least next year. Certainly not contenders quite yet but the "tank" part of their rebuild should be behind them now.

Nurse going there would make some sense actually. Give him the chance to rebuild his career and gives them a vet who could give them meaningful minutes.

Yes, they will want to get better and begin winning. Their tanking years are done.

People need to get used to the new cap structure.

Record profits, cap skyrocketing in 2 seasons... it's not going down. Unless there's another unexpected world event (not out of the realm of possibility), this thing will keep rising. Top guys will be getting 16M+ contracts. Hischier's will age fine, especially given the C market.
Not to mention more expansion eventually.

No I get that.

Potentially paying the guy 13M which is arguably double what 2Cs get on the market now is insanity.

How? Hischier finished 9th in the Selke voting this year and is constantly in the conversation. He's a 1C. Not a high-end one, but a 1C nonetheless.

And when's the last time a 2C signed a contract? Tuch stands to make 10M+ this year. It's not insanity, it's the new normal.

Brock was set to be by far the most desirable center in UFA last summer and re-signed for $7.5m per season. He finished 3rd in Selke voting this year.

To be clear, I don’t think Hischier at $11m is overpaid.
