Ok then get a new coach. Else there's zero reasons to believe that Nelson and Necas will play differently next year in the playoffs if Bednar is still there. None.
I think Sakic told us all the truth, when he said that the moves made this season were not only for 1 playoff run (sic).

My expectation is that they will make some changes at wing. Colton, Nichushkin, and (I know this is going to piss some people off) perhaps Lehkonen. They'll then shore up 2LHD, because that's obvious. They're currently a Toews injury between here and the abyss.

The two places I expect to see little or no movement? Center and goal. And coach, if you'd like.

In truth, I think it more likely they would trade Roy than Nelson.

You trade Nelson for a bag of pucks before you ever think of trading Lehkonen, and this is coming from someone who doesn't think Lehkonen's next contract will be pretty.

Lehkonen plays with heart and passion every shift and has proven himself to score big goals.

Nelson is a bum ass.

Is there someone better than Nelson that we could acquire to replace him or is this all just a hissy fit because your team lost and you are angry over it?

Drury is a nice player, but he believes he’s a 3C and wants to be paid like one.

What’s your solution?

Do you want to take him to arbitration, accept the 1 year deal and let him walk as a UFA next summer? I don’t.

Do you want to give him $3.5m-$3.75m AAV on a long-term deal? I don’t. He’s a 25 point forward who is usually an offensive black hole.

Given our cap situation and the unlikelihood of moving other guys, I would prefer to trade his RFA rights and recoup some assets.

I've gotten more comfortable with this idea. Mikheyev (age 32) is a career 39 point guy who's about to get $5M-$5.5M. McCarron (age 31) is a career 17 point guy who just got $3.3M. I know those are both UFAs, and McCarron is 10 feet tall.

Roy was good in the playoffs and has a higher offensive ceiling than Drury. But he's also a huge downgrade defensively, will turn 30 this season, and is a pending UFA next summer. So there's a big part of me saying to lock up the 26-year-old and be done with it.

I'm hopeful about Ivan, but if he isn't up to the challenge when Roy walks next summer, things could get ugly. 4C was a problem (Meyers -> Olofsson -> Trenin -> Kelly) before Colorado got Drury.

Depends how much we spend on the LD.

A few things:

- Nelson is 34. He doesn't need a 3rd try in the playoffs with us to make sure that it doesn't work, we already know it doesn't.
- He makes 7.5M and we need cap space
- The whole league is looking for centers and he had good regular season stats + a gold medal
- We have 2 middle 6 centers under contract with Roy and Kadri

Not hard to see why he has to go.
We need to trade Nelson, and get this team younger. Kadri can become our 2nd line centre.

Cale Makar signs an extension, beginning in 2027, that gives him the league's second-highest AAV.

Ahead of Leon Draisaitl's $14 million and behind Kirill Kaprizov's $17 million.
