Went back to the thread for this year and decided to not post the supertilted rant I started writing last night about the game. So instead of more salt and negativity from this year, I'll share some of my negativity for next year.

It will likely be rough, probably even in the preliminaries. We are getting Canada and what I assumed was going to be the USA, although they are down 3-1 to Finland right now(doesn't help the salt). Meanwhile our team is very likely to be roooooough right now.

In terms of high end forward talent, we are projected to have Eklund, Ivar Stenberg, Frondell, and I guess Björck. As opposed to Eklund, FUS, Otto and Wahlberg. That seems like an improvement based on talent and current trajectory. But that is what it is, trajectory. This years boys were old and experienced, not only at the world juniors, but they are established AHL and SHL players. In addition to that, what makes us think these guys(aside from Eklund) will even get played like the main options, instead of making someone like Berglund or Fernstrom core pieces of the powerplays and top6.

But even assuming the high end offence evens up or even gets topped, I'm not confident in the depth next year either. How many 06 players seem like they will be strong(not "adequate") piece of our offence next year? The 07s are better, but (1) it does matter that they are underagers, and (2) while I like a lot of them, a lot of the players people have been hyping up are not prospering. In the tier behind Stenberg and Frondell, it's been a rollercoaster. Counterpoint to myself is that at least there have been some positive surprises as well.

Would have been cool if they didn't give the charity spot to Altörn and instead allowed someone like Lucas Pettersson(the only 06 I have hope for) to see some ice. Especially because he is likely the best option for 2C as of now?

But the killer is the defence. Will we have a single defenceman as good as any of the big 3 next year? I think not. Like, what are we going to do. Viggo Gustafsson who somehow bribed himself into this years team will be back to haunt me, but it's not like there are a lot strong options elsewhere. There are some fun 07 D, but to have a major role at the world juniors? We essentially have to hope Alfons Freij develops beyond what I could have ever hoped for and then play him 45 minutes a game.

I can't stress enough how cooked we are with a weak defence. Look at how this team was coached. Whenever the non-big 3 defenceman(mind you, they had some baaad moments this tournament as well) had to go back and forth, they almost melted whenever pressured. Next year we will have 5-6 Viggo Gustafssons and Axel Hurtigs. I might have to hook a car battery to my balls if when we meet the americans to offset the schock of our shambolic defence against any speedy offence.

At least the goalie situation can't get worse.

The defence is not that weak imo, Freij and Sahlin Wallenius as our offensive d-man is decent, and Boumedienne hopefully takes huge steps in improvement. Sure its not as good like this year but still top 4 caliber.

And what a master move by Hävelid, Altörn averaging 5 mins per game. Frondell was just there to be selected. Stop with the grinding bs and always pick our best possible players. We could have used his shot at the PP in OT vs Finland

Could Noah Erliden have helped this team? I remember him being absolutely lights out for the Swedes in the 2023 U18s. He’s only 5’11” but was he left off the roster because he left to play in the OHL? Or is Thelin and Gidlof truly that much better than him now?

Might be "decent", but that's not a positive. Especially combined with the rest of our team. Even though I like Freij(and LSW to some extent).

Boumedienne hopefully takes huge steps in improvement
"hopefully" is doing a lot of work here. I have not seen Boumedienne in a lot of league play, so I can't say for sure, but I have heard very little to suggest he is on pace to be a big difference maker right now. Additionally, I have seen very little of him internationally that excites me.
Also, if he is the player we are putting hope into, that kind of says something about the rest.

Sure its not as good like this year but still top 4 caliber.

1) That is kind of the point, it's going to be(at least to me, and I really don't see an argument otherwise) way way worse next year, and it's not like we are likely to make up for it on the forward position. AND(!!!!) thats with projecting teams that don't include whatever charity picks Hävelid and his team will have next year.

2) Don't know enough about the other countries projected talent for next year, but I don't like the top4 part. Cool I guess? We did technically place top 4 this year, but we're closer to coping with tequila than celebrating with champagne. There's 5 big nations at this tournament, so placing top 4 is just not doing the worst.

Hand on my heart, I won't miss a second if I get Eklund and Stenberg on the same line for 5-7 games. Even if we go out horribly.

well, even with a decent defence, you can still with the tourney. Just have to be coached right.

AND not getting goalied but instead be the team who goalies them

You could possibly win with a terrible defence too, but that's not a good argument to put belief in the team. Same goes for just hoping to "goalie" the other teams.

I have no clue why we could reasonably expect to be "coached right" either.

All due respect, but this just kind of seems like the good old swedish cultivated copium.

So what do you want to do? Personally sacking everyone would be a good start

Theres only 2 things to do, sack or arrest everyone in charge of the federation, change ways how we train and develop our talents. If we dont do that we never win again
