Red Sox/MLB 2026 Regular Season VI, 54-50, Red Sox Win 6th Series in a Row

I'm watching a Pedro game from September 2000 on YouTube and they showed a graphic where Pedro's ERA at that point in his starts was like 1.7 and the other starters combined had an ERA of 5.9. That lineup was pretty good too, if they had f***ing any pitching outside of Pedro they could've been a disrupter in October.

Also, how was that 26 years ago already? But that's what I like about baseball because baseball never ends. Some years are better and some are worse, but you can set your watch to a Red Sox game in the summer. At least until the work stoppage next year. But as much as styles change and technology changes, you can pull up a full game from any year after about 1965 on YouTube and ultimately it's the same sport.

Edit: Also, the PBP announcer for the game is Dave O'Brien and he sounds exactly the same. How old is this guy? It feels like he's permanently 45 years old in my mind.

:laugh: Dave O'brien? Was he a NESN announcer before or is this a national game you're watching or something?
 
Following up, it's amazing that you had an ace with the single greatest season in modern pitching history in Pedro and you had a shortstop who hit .372 in Nomar and you still missed the playoffs by 5 games. Not sure if that's impressive that despite the lack of support those guys carried them that close to a playoff berth (mainly kept out because Oakland didn't lose practically the entire month of September) or frustrating that Duquette couldn't get you one decent pitcher to supplant them.

I looked it up and the Red Sox led the American League in team ERA that year, which is entirely carried by Pedro and the bullpen because the only other starter who wasn't a total mess that year was Tomo Ohka who only got called up in July.

Pedro was must watch TV for me in those days. I'd do anything to make sure I had the night off on a Pedro start.

Depends on the why.

I think these guys are going to come back down to earth and have the pitching show up when the batting doesn’t and vice versa.

And if the owners and front office do nothing at the trade deadline. To improve the team and not take advantage of this great vibe they got going. I will root for a 15 game losing streak.

Yeah but I'd be pissed if they traded Two of their good young pitchers for an injury prone player who "has a bat", especially with this Red Sox medical staff whom people don't exactly love, or trust.

I would reply if you added some specificity to who the young pitchers are and who this injury prone bat you are referring to.
 
ESPN looks at which Red Sox prospects might be moved.

from espn.com:

System snapshot: Solid depth and some upside as well. RHP Anthony Eyanson has been the big riser, and LHP Jake Bennett has outperformed expectations, RHP Kyson Witherspoon has scuffled and RHP Juan Valera will sit out the season because of elbow surgery. OF Justin Gonzales, OF Enddy Azocar and C Franklin Primera are also arrow-up this year, as is 2B Henry Godbout.

Their untouchables: SS Franklin Arias is surely off the table and Eyanson might also be.

Prospects they could deal if going for it: I could see a team acquiring low on Valera post surgery as his buzz was rising into the Top 100 before the injury. Godbout is the tier of prospect that is often traded at the deadline, so he's also a likely target.

Biggest need if acquiring prospects: Boston has a specific kind of pitcher it likes to target (often some combination of lefty, big extension, supinator), so it probably will have a chance to add some players like that in potential deals. Otherwise, I think the Sox would like to take more chances on position players with upside, as that demographic improved this year and they added a number of them in the 2026 draft.

I heard Felger & Mazz talking about this proposal earlier, I'm not giving both. If you get Witt, is Arias expendable?

They'd want Arias, Tolle, and Early.

And id maniacally laugh and hang up.


Witt is good. But hes been hurt back and forth all year and looks like hes lost a step.

A 1 for 1 trade? Maybe.

But for the haul they'd want for an injured player? no thanks. No thank you!
