2026 NHL Draft

Interesting that Pagnotta has been adamant Vancouver won’t select Malhotra if he’s available at their pick. Whereas all other groupthink has been putting Malhotra to Van as a foregone conclusion .

They seemed to be interested in it before Manny got the HC job. Now it seems that a lot of pundits feel like it isn't a good idea. Creates a weird dynamic in the room but also kind of weird if your dad loses the room and ends up getting fired.

Didn't see this discussed elsewhere, always love when people do the full 7 round mock. Pronman has his.

Jets ended up with:
8. Smits
71. Jonah Sivertson, RW, Prince Albert (WHL)
116. Alan Shaikhlislamov, RW, Ufa Jr. (Russia)
135. Joe Erickson, C, Blake School (USA Minnesota State High School League)
167. Yaroslav Bryzgalov, LW, Medicine Hat (WHL)
199. David Vermirovsky, G, Pardubice Jr. (Czechia)
220. Zachary Jovanovski, G, Guelph (OHL)

Perfect. Another LHD... just what we needed

:shakehead

Morrissey is already 31, not a bad time to start looking at who might eventually replace him. That said, I'd still prefer Lin or Rudolph to Smits for their higher ceilings alone. RH shot is just a nice little bonus.
If we're picking Smits, it means we are leaving one of Verhoeff, Rudolph or Bjorck on the board (assuming MacKenna, Reid, Mallhotra, Stenberg and Carels go top 5)

I don't like Smits better than any of those 3, even without taking positional prospect depth into consideration.

It seems like a top 7 has emerged and I'll be surprised if they're not the first 7 chosen.

I think we're looking at a choice between Smits, Rudolph and Gustafsson. Us fans might be gunning for Rudolph but I don't know who Chevy will take. He's focused lately on drafting very mobile defenders and Smits and Gustafsson are a closer match there.

Smits is a better skater but Rudolph is significantly better at actually moving the puck in both passing and carrying. Smits hands and vision are nothing special but he's more physical and better in his own end.

Where do you get an established top 7? Every ranking I've seen has multiple possibilities. Many have Smits going high.

You would think this is the draft you grab a RHD unless a center falls to us.

I was listening to a HockeyProspect.com pod when I wrote that and it matched my own opinion so I took it as fact. They see a cut-off after 7, and they think any of those 7 could be the top dog. After you questioned me I checked Cam's Consensus and TSN's survey results and both have Smits at 7th, so it seems like there's still a top 8 and then Rudolph at 9.

The HP guys think Smits has questionable upside with the puck. Also his confidence in meetings at the Combine rubbed some evaluators the wrong way. I could see him fall a bit on draft day, especially since Gustafsson is so we'll liked. As much as I would prefer Rudolph over these guys I won't be surprised if Chevy picks one of them. If I had to bet, I'd go with Gustafsson for Chevy.

That would be a disappointing result for #8.

I think there's a chance Seattle takes Rudolph. Montour is on the back half of his career. As is Larsson. Could be a #1 in Seattle within a few years.

If Calgary and Seattle go Verhoeff, Rudolph I think the Jets end up with Bjorck.

Carels to Chicago I could see.

Reid to New York?

Will be interesting because I think Rangers with Schneider could maybe move up the draft. Same with Chicago.

I'm still waiting to hear Mc Kenna is going to Toronto. The draft rankings don't separate Stenberg and Mc Kenna by much.

Jets spot I think it comes down to Verhoeff or Bjorck.

If the Jets get Ostlund from Buffalo, I could see them going for Bjorck or vise versa. Swede line of Rosen-Ostlund-Bjork would be a pretty fun 3rd Line.

Verhoeff would be a fall, but we need a potential top pair Rhd in the system, I could see Rudolph in the option also.

I think Sj and Chicago go defenders
