THAT’S RIGHT! we have another trade to announce, columbus is trading down and will end up with jack hextall or someone of that ilk. no hemming for you.
Like trading down to take Picard instead of Ladd

Am I the only one not very excited about Hemming? NHL shot but only 1 goal? Pointless in his final 6 games? Idk man.

Player comps from Chris Peters and Cam Robinson for Command

Cam -> Joel Erikkson Ek
Chris -> Brayden Schenn

Cam said he came up with the Eric Daze for Ethan Belchetz.

“Problem is they don’t wanna have to keep getting Belchetz going. He’s gotta get going himself and keep going.”

Cam on Day 2 names to watch:

Siverston: He’s big. The skatings not great. I think there’s a lot of upside there as a power winger kind. He’s kind of a unique one.

Gudmundsson: Really interesting player. Played really great with Malte Gustafsson at U18s.

Alalauri: He hasn’t really wowed me but he’s got size and pretty good. I think there’s a chance he goes in round one too.

Bleyl: I think he had a great back half of the season. Really elevated his stock.

Cam thinks Nordmark will go in the 1st because a team can’t help themselves with the skill. Did say he would almost DND him because he did so poorly at the combine. Thought of himself as the most underrated player in the class. Modeled himself after the Tkachuk brothers. Doesn’t have situational awareness either.

From Peters:

Villenevue is very touch and go on whether he will be a first rounder.

Ryder Cali is another guy who’s had a lot of late buzz who reminds me of Marek Vanacker from a few years ago. Like I like the way this guy plays.

Cam on Smits being at 13:

“Smits has frustrated me throughout this year on many occasions this year. Granted, you know he has put more miles on than all of us combined. You know, playing Junior, DEL, Liiga, World Juniors, men’s championship, and, Olympics. Like he’s been forced to listen to a bunch of different coaches, try and play a bunch of different systems, and throw on different jerseys. It’s been difficult for him. He is very NHL ready. Physically, he is strong. Mentally, he is strong. He’s a great skater. Those are all boxes checked. I think there’s a very clear path for him to be a to be a top 4 defender. I don’t see top pairing upside. I don’t think he has the brain or the skill to truly be that. Unless, you want to put him next to someone and turn him into more of a defensive guy. You know similar to Verhoeff but differently is he’s a hammer, right? He skates hard, he hits hard, and shoots hard. That’s great but there’s very little nuance to his game. I’ve seen him miss too many outlet passes that were straight nothing in between him and he just misses the mark. Whether it’s a focus or execution issue. There’s been too many moments where he’s bothered me. I just think there’s bigger brains there (On D ahead of him) Yes, he’ll have the physical weapons to do damage on the ice. I just wonder does he have the tool belt to carry him around?”

Peters Q to Cam:

“What is the most important trait to you when evaluating a player? What is the one thing if a guy has it - it’s going to give him a lot better of a chance?”

“If you can skate. It’s huge. If you are one of the best skaters even if you have deficiencies elsewhere. It’s going to afford you so many opportunities on both sides of the puck. So skating, massive. That’s the clearest advantage in my mind. I’ve always put a ton of value on skating. IQ Smarts for me because if you have superior intelligence that allows you to have the wherewithal to then correct them to break down deficiencies skill sets and fix them. So I think you can improve your hands, shot. You know vision and playmaking. I do think that’s an ingrained thing that’s a touch harder to get. Skating is difficult to get at this age but you can improve it incrementally. So skating and brain are two big big things for me. If you have the best shot? Great. As long as you can get to spots. That’s an advantage. If you can’t get to spots? No advantage. Great hands? Great. But if you can’t skate and you can’t shoot. Don’t have a B game? Great. You’re going to dangle yourself into nowhere. So it doesn’t matter to me. Then compete. I don’t think we should put compete in the backseat. Teams really value that. It’s going to show your intestinal fortitude. Can you fight back? You’re going to tackle tough blows. Like things are going to be difficult. How can you battle through them and still succeed?”
