Boston Bruins 2026 NHL Draft Part 2

Fair or unfair Im leery of players who’s shot is their calling card and of players who are talented but have a ‘some games don’t notice rep’

This is on display on this site about Morgan Geekie right now - great shot and can score but he’s lost a little of the Carolina/Kraken bottom 6 grit. We are on him for a couple of guys who can only dream of 33 and 39 goals in the NHL.

A player like Adam Novotny I love because he shows up and has skill. But I’m reading a lot of the inconsistency in effort ‘but when on’ they’re ‘all that and then some’ in two players: Maddux Deagenais & Marcus Nordmark.

Novotny would be fantastic but starting at 16 he probably should be paying attention to the draft

I’m not wanting Dagenais or Nordmark at 23 but obviously if they get drafted here they could & hopefully prove me wrong.

I usually throw on deodorant head to gym and shower when I get home around 10:30

However after seeing this I may need a cold shower before

31. Carolina Hurricanes

Kimelman -- Casey Mutryn: He plays the way the Hurricanes like to play: quick, aggressive on the forecheck, strong in 1-on-1 battles and has a high hockey IQ. He's got a power forward build that he can continue to develop next season when he plays at Boston College with his older brother, Teddy Mutryn, a Predators forward prospect.

Morreale -- Juho Piiparinen, D, Tappara (FIN): The right-handed shot (6-1, 201) is considered a defensive-minded defenseman capable of shutting plays down and controlling the space in front of his net and along the boards. Piiparinen, who compares his style to Ekblad, is a fine skater with good edgework. The 17-year-old had one assist, was plus-6 and averaged 13:27 of ice time in four games for Finland at the 2026 WJC.

32. Ottawa Senators

Kimelman -- Juho Piiparinen, D, Tappara (FIN): The Senators have used their first pick on a defenseman four straight years, but Piiparinen is too good to pass on in this spot. The right-handed shot played most of the season in Liiga and rarely looked out of place against older, more developed competition, with a plus-6 rating in 10:15 of ice time in 29 games. Expect him to have a bigger role next season, with the potential for being a dependable defense-first parter for a more offensive-minded partner, potentially Carter Yakemchuk, their first-round pick (No. 7) in the 2024 draft.

Morreale -- Elton Hermansson: He is a dynamic offensive player with strong power-play ability, a quick release on his shot and a dangerous one-timer. Hermansson led under-18 players in Allsvenskan with 11 goals and was fourth with 21 points in 38 games.

25. Seattle Kraken (from Tampa Bay Lightning)

Kimelman -- JP Hurlbert: The Texas native made a seamless transition to the WHL after playing last season for the NTDP Under-17 team. Hurlbert played all three forward spots this season and developed his all-around game enough that he became a reliable penalty killer. After finding their potential franchise defenseman with their first pick, the Kraken can look to upgrade their forward skill with Hurlbert, who will continue to get better as he develops at the University of Michigan next season.

Morreale -- Casey Mutryn, RW, USA U-18 (NTDP-USHL):Mutryn (6-3, 200) had 47 points (18 goals, 29 assists), including 10 power-play goals, in 63 games as a power forward presence. The 17-year-old thrives in the physical aspects of the game, showing soft hands in tight areas and serving as an effective net-front option on the power play. The Boston College-bound right-handed shot competes hard down low, is aggressive on the forecheck, and consistently finishes his checks.

Pronman is kind of insane with his ratings and he’s got Mutryn 14 ~ again, kind of out there historically with his takes

That said I’ll be pretty happy if Mutryn goes 23

Just FYI this is from 2 weeks ago. NHL.com hasn’t done a new one surprisingly.

I have landed on 26 prospects I’d take at pick 23 if I was making the pick for Boston.

There are a lot of players I really like from Cover to Sokolovskii to Cali to Preston to Hextell to Hakansson etc who are outside of 26

My 27-52 is very good but I’m hoping that’s not where pick comes from.

Day 2 going to be wild

23. Boston Bruins: Jack Hextall, C, Youngstown (USHL)

I’ve heard the Bruins like Hextall and have spent some extra time with him over the course of this season, but they also feel overdue to take a D in the first round, and I get the sense they’re kind of the real start of Bleyl’s range. This is also the start of William Håkansson’s range if they feel their pool needs the D more than the center.

He may be a fine player I really don’t know but it just has a “safe floor” vibe.

My preferences: Klepov, Hermonsson, Dageneis, Bleyl, Hurlburt

An American center.

Great.

Only way the Bruins get one of these top guys is if they trade into the top 10-11, so ya I don’t see it, but holding out hope that if Rudolph is still on the board around 9 Sweeney shows he has a heartbeat and moves up and picks him.

I would be surprised if the Bruins pick him if he's available at 23, but Villeneuve would be the perfect defensive partner for McAvoy. He may struggle clearing the crease based on his size at the NHL-level, but the way he moves with the puck, creates seams for passes, and cuts off forwards when retrieving pucks, those are skills not a lot of defensemen have which makes him a threat each time he's on the ice.

I'm still holding out hope that Wyatt Cullen as a slight slide and Sweeney moves up to get him. Right now he seems to be in that 10-13 range. If he slides outside the top 15 I'd love to see Sweeney work something
His speed with Hagens on the same line would be something to watch.

I wouldn’t take him with the Bruins first just feel there’ll be better options but I’m sure someone will.

I’d take a chance on Bleyl before vill

I have a new pup who is a holy terror at the moment so I haven’t had time to dig into the draft other than the known most likely first round guys. I do have my elite prospects draft guide. Hoping to cram Wednesday and Thursday of reading and watching highlights of players and do my picks. Was stoked with Cooper Simpson last year. Hopefully some more gems this draft

At first blush, not sure if I would take the pick or not but the one player that screams to me Sweeney pick is Oscar Hemming if he is around at 23. Would play with Moore and they can watch him in their own backyard at BC

this literally says:
"But since his promotion, Boston has operated without a dedicated WHL scout, leaving Peter MacKay to split his time between western Alberta and NCAA coverage."

The Bruins website says:
"Parker MacKay is in his fifth season in the Bruins organization. A native of Irma, Alberta, he joined the Boston staff as an amateur scout in Western Alberta in 2021-22 and added college scouting responsibilities last season."

MacKay scouts the WHL in addition to NCAA scouting. They don't have a scout assigned exclusively to the WHL but they do have a scout assigned to it splitting time elsewhere.
I wish there were more but more isn’t always better.

I’m sure it’s more complicated than the article or Dom are able to relay. It seems both are literally true.

Where is Morozov. Below these guys or on a list of not likely available. I really like the things I’ve read about him.
Seems there are quite a few Russians around their 1st round pick and he is one of them. I know they’ll grab a Russian in later rounds but 1st round? Last time I am pretty sure it was Samsanov like what 97? I’d be surprised if they did but there are some intriguing russians for sure

I never came away with the impression this kid was anything but big. We need more speed and skill.
