Interesting how the entire league and the league’s media and media personality can totally ignore criminal charges against the McKenna family but refused to drop other criminal charges or proceedings that have already concluded in a not guilty plea. Disgusting! I wouldn’t draft McKenna with a 10 foot pole.

What about an 11 footer?

I'm kinda off Carels.

I don't see the superstar there. I see solid long term very good, possibly first pair, but dependable more than flashy.

I want the star. I won't hate it, but, I don't love it either.
I'm not so sure we're getting a "star" no matter which D drops. I think all are "possible" 1st pair.

We all thought Miller had high upside when drafted. As long as he can skate defend take the body when needed and good with defending with his stick and not avoid contact or be lazy.
If Reid can score 50+ a year,he could whack people with a purse for all i care.Seriously though,as long as he can defend,I don't give a shit about taking the body.Defend, get the puck,go the other way with it

So you wouldn't want a dmen that can skate and defend lile Ryan McDonagh. Does he have that type of upside?

It's always possible.

I'm just saying likelihoods. I think there's a better chance with Reid, or Bjork, that you get a top pair star, or an exciting first line guy. Smits might be Seider. Malhotra could be a low end 1C.

With Carels, I just see 40 point lower end first pair D.

It's fine. It's just vanilla.

I don't think he's checking the box on "the checklist," of one of your elite guys.

Gorton wasn't perfect and messed a lot up.

But he had the right idea when it came to the idea that the franchise needed to be in asset accumulation mode.

That overarching principle kinda trumps whether you get X draft pick or Y draft pick right or not.

Obviously there are busts. It might take time. There might be screw ups. Gorton screwed up a lot.

Yet if we had just stayed in asset accumulation mode we'd be in so much better shape right now. Being in asset accumulation mode trumps almost everything else.

Drury isn't willing to put us in that mode. Get the F out then and find someone who is.

Seth MacFarlane got fatter

And HF Board moderators following suit, I had 2 threads deleted for no reason when I started asking about what happened and what the potential impact could be on his visa status. Poof gone…..

Rangers not shutting the door on moving back from 5:

There are a few names I’ve been hearing a lot in recent days and weeks that I wanted to draw some attention to:

  • I don’t think Xavier Villeneuve goes in the first round, but I do think Tommy Bleyl does. Villeneuve will go early on Day 2 and interviewed well at the combine, but I get the sense teams are too wary of his defending to take him in Round 1.
  • There are several teams in the late first that I’ve heard connected to American center Jack Hextall. He was viewed as a bubble first-rounder for much of the year, but he goes in the 20s.
  • There are a couple of teams strongly considering Providence commit Ryder Cali at the end of Round 1. Two different sources have mentioned the Senators at No. 32 in particular. He’ll be gone before 40, for sure.
  • Tobias Trejbal will be the first goalie taken, and I think it will happen in the 30s. I’m keeping an eye on Calgary and Pittsburgh.
  • I’ve been hearing consistently since the combine that the Penguins have made a lot of calls about moving up. I think they have a guy in the top 10 they want and one in the teens they like, so there are teams in two different ranges they’ve touched base with. If they move up from No. 22 into the teens (which is the easier move to execute), I’d bet it’s for D Ryan Lin.
  • I don’t think the Blues make all four of their first-round picks, but look for them to take a center (or maybe two).
  • Eminently likable pro-styled Swedish center Alexander Command is going to go in the front half of the first round and could go closer to No. 10 than No. 16.
  • I’ve heard talk of the Sabres flipping No. 4, and of the Rangers not shutting the door on moving back from No. 5.
  • Despite his lost draft year to ACL surgery, there’s a lot of interest in ’07 Swede Jonas Lagerberg Hoen. He’s a 6-foot-2.5 winger with NHL shot/skill combo and room for physical development. I don’t think the late first is out of the question, and he’ll be a second-rounder at minimum.
  • When Russian Nikita Shcherbakov measured at 6-foot-5 (up from 6-foot-3) at Gold Star’s camp in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., it caught some teams’ attention. Defensemen that size who can move don’t last long, and I know he’s a first-rounder on some boards.
