Pre-Game Talk: 2026 NHL Draft - First Round | Friday, Jun. 256h | 4:00PM PST | SNP | 3rd & 24th Overall

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
I'm okay with taking Reid. If we have his rights for 7 years, we can worry about recouping value at that point. Presumably we would be coming into our own at that time and he'd could be a great trade chip to put us over the top, if that that's the way it plays out.

It's too bad hearing about Carel's concussion. Does he play the type of game where he'll take a ton of hits?

I’m not buying the Chase Reid to Vancouver is 100% narrative. Not one bit. They gotta be f***in stupid if so I’m putting this group in the tier as Alvin Rutherford.

If Stenberg is taken at #2 the Canucks need to trade down. The Rangers are rumored to be looking to trade up. #3 for #5 + #26. Could potentially get them to add another mid pick potentially. You still have a good chance to get Malhotra or Reid (the 2 guys the Canucks are rumoured to have the most interest in). Worst case you get your choice of Carels/Bjorck/Verhoeff/Smits/Rudolph. Potentially trade back again 2-5 spots to pick up more picks.

No thanks from me. While there may be great players after 3 ( possibly the best..who knows? ) I’ll take the quality over quantity pick of the litter at 3.

What if Malhotra and Reid are not there at 5th..?

they won't be. Buffalo would be all over Caleb and if the Rangers trade up it's for Reid. so sick of *****s suggesting trading down

Since we're in multi-year rebuild mode, being close to NHL-ready isn't really a good thing. Yes, you take the best overall player (not sure it's him) but if a player will be in college for 1-2 years that gives us more years or team control down the line.

And less pressure to "git good" fast and make errors rushing.

Going to be Chase Reid or Caleb Malhotra. Either prospect will make me ecstatic. Think it will ultimately be Reid as the selection.

Zeev Buium - Chase Reid
Elias Pettersson - Tom Willander

Would give them the best collection of U22 d-men in the entire league.

Hronek traded at 2027 or 2028 draft for a haul.
I agree but D-Petey would play with Reid and Willander with Buium, the latter two seem to have formed a good bond and all pairings would complement each other with a defensive Dman and offensive Dman. Late in a game if you’re trailing you pair Reid and Buium and deploy a shutdown unit of D-Petey and Willander.

Crazy defensive core and it happens because Reid is a RHD. They compliment each other even nationally and could play together as pairs on a national level like Makar and Toews.

The quantity may end up being the guy you would have drafted at #3 + another first. It only takes 1 of the 2 teams to take someone else for the Canucks to still land one of their 2 rumoured targets. 1 of those 2 teams you are trading with, so you can easily just ask them who they would be taking. You can even reach out to #4 and let them know you may be trading #3 so if they have 1 guy they really want they could pay up to move the 1 spot instead.

Now lets say NYR wont say who they are taking, and BUF doesn't want to trade up. You still end up with 1 of Carels or Bjorck who are just as good or better than Reid/Malhotra. In fact I would rank them Malhotra/Bjorck/Carels/Reid. Although since the Canucks seem to be leaning towards Reid, would rather just trade down and get a better player that would be happy to play in Canada vs bolting the first chance he gets.

Not concerned, there are about 7-8 prospects after McKenna and Stenberg that are all pretty much equal in value.

If the Rangers offer up the 26th overall to move up from the 5th pick to the 3rd pick I wouldn’t hesitate. Still keeps us in the Reid, Malholtra, Carels, Bjorck territory.

My final top 10.

1) McKenna
2) Stenberg
3) Bjorck
4) Smits
5) Reid
6) Malhotra
7) Verhoeff
8) Carels
9) Cullen
10) Lawrence

Obviously lean Bjorck but would be happy with anyone ranked in the top 6. Cullen is my darkhorse steal of the draft year. Preston could be interesting as well. I am hopeful he is available at 24. A swing for the fences that I believe still holds top line potential.

Finally a draft day to be excited about. Looking forward to the typical pissing and moaning over who we pick. Lots of diverse opinions this year. Should be a doozy!

Again, you’re in the 3 spot. Its literally giving you the option of picking your own destiny rather than having it decided for you.

Anyway, RJ has already signaled he really likes where the Canucks are picking, so discussing trading down is redundant.
