GDT: 2026 Free Agency Frenzy: Wed. July 1st | 12 PM

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Xenforo Cloud is upgrading us to version 2.3.11 on Monday July 20, 2026 at 12:00 AM PST. Expect a temporary downtime during this process. More info here
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
And the nonsense that has to f***ing stop is the thought that ONLY THE HABS can improve. I still read how we have THE BEST KIDS! how many of those people take the time to see the other teams pipeline? Everybody says Buffalo will be so bad......CLEARLY not seeing that Ostlund, Helenius and Kulich will be there FULL TIME. And that Benson had 43 points last year???

Matching up well against Tampa and Buffalo...my god.....yeah, it was fun. We won the 7th game against Tampa with 9 f***ing shots on net. Tell me how GREAT we would look at the past playoffs if that would have been the end....

Do you actually think that right now JUST MAKING THE PLAYOFFS is AGAIN the ultimate goal? You think that going into the playoffs and losing in the 1st round will be enough? Why are you talking about making the playoffs? If the progression is linear....shouldn't be challenged for 1st spot in the division? Shouldn't we be seen as a favorite to win the Conference?
We will end up signing Giroux as second line centre which isn’t bad provided you bring in a very good top 6 winger.

I anticipate we sign a defenseman today or over the next few days as well but not trouba.

Other than that I expect a quiet day. The big move won’t be today.

Btw I agree with everything you said 1000%.

Guhle, Newhook, Kapanen, Struble, Xhekaj, and their 1st and second round picks all have value despite what this board likes to pretend. And none of these players are glaringly different from the the roster players being traded across the league.

The over valuing of other players, and the under valuing of the habs players needs to stop.
Wait so what you are telling me is that this team in awesome. Which means that if everybody believes it, that 1st round and 2nd round are at the end of it....and that has value? Since when?

Then, all the other players you mention....Struble and Arber will really makes us add a SIGNIFICANT piece? And then, Guhle (the injured one), Newhook and Kappy...sure. They do have some value. Don't you see that a team that IMPROVES is not the team that empty a spot to fill another? Or that replaces a worst guy by a better guy? There is NOBODY in the system that we have that can fill the spot of guhle, newhook and even Kappy THIS YEAR. Next year...yes Hage for Kappy. But this year, nobody. So if you add a top 6 and remove a Guhle, what's your top 6 next year? If you remove a Newhook for a No4 RD this year....who plays on your 3rd with the speed that Newhook has?

You forgot Engstrom who is a great trade chip. He's a NHL defenseman with untapped potential.

Also, Fowler whose value is certainly higher than Cossa, who returned a late 1st.

Frankly if I'm the other team and I look at our roster, Pickford is far down the list of my priorities.
Yes, this is true. And I also forgot about Reinbacher.

Folks are so f***ing focused on a new shiny toy, that not only is our core going to regress, but we've suddenly have no assets as well. It's just dumb.

Guhle, Newhook, Bolduc, Kapanen, Struble, Arber, Florian, Beck, Reinbacher, Engstron, Zharovsky, Hage, Pickford, Fowler are all quality trade chips. And the habs still have their first and second rounders.

People are just unable to cope.

No, I am saying despite not adding, the Habs still have one of the stronger cores in the league, and its nonsense to assume that they are suddenly gonna be out of a playoff spot.

And yes, the Habs peripheral players have value.

Take the day off my guy.

Tampa had a lead for a grand total of 28 mins in 7 games. That is a way worse fact than the game 7 where it was 1-1 in high danger chance in the end.

You and @scrubadam can spend the whole day complaining about Montreal doing nothing all day. It'll be great.
i heard Bergy left his book of excuses for Kent to deliver to the fans
- can't part with the future
- trades are hard
- only local guys want to come here and they weren't available
- not willing to part with our young talent
- building a winner
- talked to Drouin may sign him for his leadership and local knowledge

We might pause on the progression.....thing is the more you wait, the more the Sharks are becoming unbeatable. We really in a tough place. During the last efforts of Panthers/Lightning/Canes/Vegas....and just before the explosion of Sharks/Ducks....the good news later on is that it might mean at least a Cup Finals. Which right now, it seems just making it will be tough....

We need to stay focus and patient.
Teams are loaded up because of us.....because we're already loaded and in the next 12 months we'll moslty be adding 2 prospects seen as future top player in Zharovsky and Hage, And we still have other prospects as Reinbacher, Engstrom, Beck, FX that might step into the light.

Yep the Sharks will be scary but we are so far from done.....and we have such an healthy cap structure starting next year.

The goal right now is to improve the team with targeted acquisitions. The whole league knows we want to do it and that we have the assets.

We don't control the timeline. All we can do is present our offers and wait for the market to respond.

I'd much rather forfeit my dopamine hit than squander our assets on players that will not propel us to contender status.

Just because you don't take a step forward doesn't mean you automatically take 3 steps back. That is just pure negativity.

Even if the habs do not fill their holes, they remain a team that has 4 legitimate top offensive players in Suzuki, Caufield, Slaf, and Demidov. They also have strong offensive support on the back in Hutson and Dobson. And their top 4 on D of Matheson, Dobson, Hutson, Guhle is still strong.

It is completely illogical to think that this core doesn't remain among the stronger ones in the league because they didn't add grit in the bottom 6 or an additional top 6 winger.

It is 100% negativity.
It's 100% reality. If you don,t take a step forward, others might. I swear people think we are still in 1970 when the Habs were 50 point ahead of everybody. Do people not realize that the 2 final teams that made the playoffs finished with a whopping 6 and 7 points under us?

do we have a strong core? Yes, Especially for the regular season, still not proven in the playoffs. Do others have strong core? Yes. Buffalo still. Canes still. Panthers still. And that's without any movement for any other teams this summer.

It's isnane how we almost UNANIMOUSLY with....THIS IS A BIG SUMMER FOR KH!!!!! HE HAS TO DO SOMETHING!!!! to.....Hey, we are already strong, we are fine. Don't be negative....lollll

How's Anders Lee skating lately....

Lee-Bourque-Demidov....

He's as fast as McTavish, but he has an excuse, he's getting old.

According to hockey Edge he's <50th Percentile.

This is true of any team. Florida ended up with a top 10 pick because Barkov was injured.
No this is not. Remove Reinhart from Florida, and they have more than enough ingredients to make up for it. And they, you know, actually took steps this summer to further insulate themselves from potential injuries.

We are one Slaf injury away from icing

Texier - Suzuki - Caufield
Newhook - Kapanen - Demidov

Still think this is a top-6 worthy of a playoffs spot?

The Leafs who are ridiculed as hell here will be icing

Knies - Matthews - Nylander
McKenna - Tavares - Cowan

And this is if they sit idle and do nothing, which they won't. They are rumoured to be adding Werensky.

I'm telling you. If we do nothing, when the dust settles, we're on the outside looking in.
