GDT: 2026 Free Agency Frenzy: Wed. July 1st | 12 PM

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Xenforo Cloud is upgrading us to version 2.3.11 on Monday July 20, 2026 at 12:00 AM PST. Expect a temporary downtime during this process. More info here
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
You can also immediately remove Pickford from the equation in a trade till he gets back on the ice and prooves his shoulder is 100%. Habs have really close to nothing to trade frankly. Especially if they don't want to move Hage.

You go all in or you don't. If you don't you MIGHT not make the playoffs. If you don't make the playoffs, we better be active in selling at the deadline.
My god, this doomerism is f***ing insane.

Yes, a team that has only seen linear progression, matched up well in the playoffs against Tampa and Buffalo is suddenly going to fall off a cliff.

It's just f***ing insane to assume that every other team will remain as good or get better, but someone how the habs will across the board perform worse.

You guys really have bad coping mechanisms.

I have a hard time believing that somehow Slaf, Hutson, Demidov, Caufield, Suzuki, Dobson, Guhle will all simultaneously have worse seasons.

You don't miss the playoffs because of your depth players. You miss the playoffs because your core is shit.

There is absolutely zero reason to believe that the habs core will suddenly perform like a non playoff team because they didn't get AJ Greer.

This nonsense has to stop.

Guhle, Newhook, Kapanen, Bolduc, Struble, Xhekaj, and their 1st and second round picks all have value despite what this board likes to pretend. And none of these players are glaringly different from the the roster players being traded across the league.

The over valuing of other players, and the under valuing of the habs players needs to stop.

And the nonsense that has to f***ing stop is the thought that ONLY THE HABS can improve. I still read how we have THE BEST KIDS! how many of those people take the time to see the other teams pipeline? Everybody says Buffalo will be so bad......CLEARLY not seeing that Ostlund, Helenius and Kulich will be there FULL TIME. And that Benson had 43 points last year???

Matching up well against Tampa and Buffalo...my god.....yeah, it was fun. We won the 7th game against Tampa with 9 f***ing shots on net. Tell me how GREAT we would look at the past playoffs if that would have been the end....

Do you actually think that right now JUST MAKING THE PLAYOFFS is AGAIN the ultimate goal? You think that going into the playoffs and losing in the 1st round will be enough? Why are you talking about making the playoffs? If the progression is linear....shouldn't be challenged for 1st spot in the division? Shouldn't we be seen as a favorite to win the Conference?

You forgot Engstrom who is a great trade chip. He's a NHL defenseman with untapped potential.

Also, Fowler whose value is certainly higher than Cossa, who returned a late 1st.

Frankly if I'm the other team and I look at our roster, Pickford is far down the list of my priorities.

If you go and do sign Marchment long term, that's an all in. That's a sign that you want your guys to compete this year again. If you stay put, or just add Brandon Duhaime, it's a let's continue on the path we want and we will get there...when we will get there.
Marchment is a complimentary player, he's not a needle mover.

No one in free agency is.

The Dobson trade looks genius when you see what Chicago did to get Byram...

Between him, Hutson, Slaf, Caufield and most of all Suzuki's contracts. The Habs have the best cap situation in the league. What is this worth if they don't leverage it to overpay some players they need?

Blank check to Marchment, do it Hughes.

Just because you don't take a step forward doesn't mean you automatically take 3 steps back. That is just pure negativity.

Even if the habs do not fill their holes, they remain a team that has 4 legitimate top offensive players in Suzuki, Caufield, Slaf, and Demidov. They also have strong offensive support on the back in Hutson and Dobson. And their top 4 on D of Matheson, Dobson, Hutson, Guhle is still strong.

It is completely illogical to think that this core doesn't remain among the stronger ones in the league because they didn't add grit in the bottom 6 or an additional top 6 winger.

It is 100% negativity.

Nevermind the fact that a bunch of other teams will actually be doing some moves today and this week.

People say every team would collapse if they're losing a guy of Suzuki's calibre to an injury.

Quite honestly, any injury to one of our 6 key players (Suzuki, Caufield, Slafkovsky, Demidov, Hutson, Dobson) would basically make us a lottery team.

It's how bad the secondary guys are on this team. It's literally expansion-team bad behind the main guys.

How come nobody talks about us for Werenski if they say the laffs don't even include Knies in the deal? I'd gladly give them top minutes Matheson+...
