Hindsight is 20/20 when it comes to the draft 4 or 5 years later. Problem is, the actual draft is projecting out how a 17/18 year old is going to mature physically with a limited sample size to go off of. Blake was 5'10 and 158 on draft day and other than Minnesota high school viewing, you had a partial USHL season to gage off of and 17 points in 25 games with his build did not scream obviously devloping into a good NHL player. Every team passed on Blake with most 3 times before Carolina made in retrospect a really good gamble.
Blake went to Steel in his post-high school season, and was somewhat lost in the shuffle that draft season. Steel were stacked that year with the Canadian Junior Leagues being shut down. Think he was playing 4th line in Playoffs.

I'm not being literal about Blake. Its annoying because he was playing in Chicago but overall its not a huge deal. Everyone misses. I just haven't been a huge fan of our picks post round 2. Some have been good, some have been awful.
Beyond round 2 is an absolute crapshoot every year. It’s throwing darts at a board. If there are even 10 players who 10 year careers from an nhl draft, then it’s really good depth wise. There’s just not a quality of talent available ever.

With that being said, the Hawks currently have, Kaiser, Crevier, Slaggert, Lardis, Del Mastro, Behm, Mustard, Spellacy who have shown something or could be something, and James who they lost but he’s a player as well. That’s about as good as you can ask for over the years, and might be the best league wide in the later rounds.

draft picks were in Vegas last night. Malhotra afraid to watch scary movies... uh oh. I... dont want him now lmao.

Holy shit is Verhoeff an impressive physical specimen.

Love the frames on Reid and Smits obviously too, but Malhotra needs some developing.

Not that it matters much anyway for the long term prospects lol.

Maybe for Reid actually. He looks like he can pack on a lot of muscle. It’s a quite impressive package with that excellent skating. No wonder the Hawks like him.

Easy to see why Reid did well in interviews. Same for Verhoeff.

Like it or not, that stuff matters.

Hearing whispers that the Hawks have Malholtra @ number 1.

Obviously unsubstantiated, but wouldn't surprise me tbh. Im sure KD fantasizes about having that big 2 way pivot to round out our lineup

I said it a while back. Malhotra as a 2C would help everyone slot in their best position.
How would this look as a future top 6?
Bedard, Frondell, Kantserov
Lardis, Malhotra, Nazar

And you still have Moore, Greene, Vanacker, Spellacy, Boisvert, Hage, Behn, Mustard, and Slaggard for the bottom line. Sign me up!

Don’t think it’s whispers per se. They would’ve seen malhortra quite a bit the last 2 years.

Your scout you use as a source that says Smits can't complete a pass and was only good in two games this year doesn't think Reid is top 10 this year either:

Shocker, he thinks the best D this year is the guy in the WHL. Huh.

Yeah he’s not “my scout” but yes, he’s insanely bias towards the dub. He’s a former WHL scout.

I’m aware he doesn’t like Reid.
