How about this?

Instead of HOPING Stenberg is still available at #4 why not trade with San Jose and guarantee getting him at #2

My proposal…

Hawks trade 2026 #4 and #45 to Sharks for #2 and #62…

The Sharks can still get the top defenceman they want at #4 and move a second rounder up 17 spots…
If the Hawks view Stenberg as their clear preference - then yes, they should do what it takes to move up. But it will cost more than you're proposal for sure.

Viggo Björk number one. I love it and I love Viggo! Hockeyprospect is probably one of the best if not the best one out there when evaluating draft prospects.
Pretty wild variance in the scouting world about Smits. 12th here, some places first.

I wouldn't trade much to move up to #2 for Stenberg. If McKenna was available at #2 I'd definitely trade for it.
Staying at #4 guarantees us getting one of the top 3 forwards or else the best defenseman in this year's draft.

Personally I'd prefer one of the forwards and if they're not available then I'd want Carson Carels.

Some oerson put out a rumourcthat VAN iscthinkingbof trading down...this got 50,000+ views...

TgecrumourxdId that Van Director of Amateur Dcoutibg Todd Harvey tealky like Verhoeff
.If they trade down to 4or 5 they still coukd get Malhotra implying that Wittenberg woukd be the logical tradeup prize ifcSJ takes Reid..at #2...

I do nkt think Hawks tradevup to get #3 for Stenber target...but if Van trades to #5or#6 even if Malhotra gone at#3 or#4 ,they still coukd get verhoeff at #5or#7 PLUS get the extra sweetener or sweeteners...

They still coukd decide that getting Either Malhotra or Verhoerff at #5,ir#6plus the Extra assets helps their re-build more than just the #3 alone.

At #6 Flames have a wRmar chrst of 1 mire 1st rounder (from Vegas) and 4 2nd roubders...

So if CGy wants eitger Stenberg or MLhotra they could try to movev up to #3.by trading the #6+ either that 41st overall orc2 ofctheirc2nd roubders as he sweeteners.

Notcsurexwhat package NYRxat #5woukd use as sweeteners to move upcoujd bexavpkayervorvdraftex prospect or picks or sone combo of such if they do nit want a dman but either Stenberg or Malhotra.

I wouldn´t make that trade at all. There isn´t that much talent gap between these top ranked players if at all. It doesn´t make sense to give up assets to move up two spots up this time. Stenberg would be nice but I don´t see him as a must have.

If the price is minimal (like the proposed trade, or even a 2nd straight up) because the tier is essentially either 1 to 5/6 or 1 & 2 to 5/6, that's one thing. If the price is what folks want on this site wants (very good prospect like RInzel+) you say thanks for discussing and stay at 4. From a team building perspective - I'd prefer Stenberg who addresses a need and would be joining this year vs. 2028/29'ish for a d-man if the price is reasonable. Not willing to bend over and pay that price for a winger.

Does anyone know if Smit's interview results were "not polished" vs. "entitled POS arsehole"? I know that NA kids who are expected to go in this range are coached on how to interview. As someone who interviews others - it can be very difficult to separate those who have been trained on how to "play the game". Additionally - interviewing in a 2nd language is a special kind of hard.

I will be interested to see where Smits goes. The ability at 18 YO's to win physical altercations with guys like Matthews and Draisatl is really damn impressive. Obviously - that's only one aspect of the game - but it's a pretty darn important aspect IMO.

These things never get reported with any specificities. It's always vague: "he didn't interview well" which doesn't mean anything.

Was he struggling with English? Did he have a translator with him? Who did he not interview well with? Was it Nashville making him stack golf balls, or Montreal asking him if he'd murder someone with a baseball bat?

Too many variables there.

You can see him speak to the media:

He's a cocky guy with a sense of humor, and that frightens Canadian organizations that are looking for media trained robots

Always nice when a guy (who was playing in your own f***ing backyard with the Steel) goes one pick later and is a good player.

Hindsight is 20/20 when it comes to the draft 4 or 5 years later. Problem is, the actual draft is projecting out how a 17/18 year old is going to mature physically with a limited sample size to go off of. Blake was 5'10 and 158 on draft day and other than Minnesota high school viewing, you had a partial USHL season to gage off of and 17 points in 25 games with his build did not scream obviously devloping into a good NHL player. Every team passed on Blake with most 3 times before Carolina made in retrospect a really good gamble.

How many times did Carolina pass on him before taking him at 109?

These are lame as hell.
Again; not making a big deal about it. Carolina took him in the 4th. If they knew he was going to be this good they obviously wouldn't have waited that long. I just think we need to draft better after the 2nd round.

Taking guys like Parker Holmes in the 4th instead of Rautiainen or Mooney. Yeah, those guys are available in the 4th for a reason. They have flaws. They also are "actual" prospects. Instead we took a guy who scored 17 points in his D+1. He likely can't even hack it in the ECHL.

Like when Detroit took Datsyuk and Zetterberg in the 6th and 7th round respectively. If they
had an inkling that they would be world class would they really pass a half a dozen time on each
player?

No one who even made those picks is even here anymore. I'm not even making a big stink about it. I just think we need to draft better after the 2nd round.
Everybody missed on Blake except Carolina. Can't be too hard on them for that one. If you haven't hit on ANY guys in round 2 significantly, then there's an issue. We also got Debrincat and Vlasic in round 2

I'm not being literal about Blake. Its annoying because he was playing in Chicago but overall its not a huge deal. Everyone misses. I just haven't been a huge fan of our picks post round 2. Some have been good, some have been awful.

It's just one guy who has a weird grudge against him for not giving Hockey Canada approved humblespeak and I guess being confident with a European accent. The NHL Central Scouting gave him some award for excellence of character and competitiveness (they gave it to Bedard in his draft year). So I don't think it's widely held.
