For all this talk about offer sheets we should remember that such things are extremely rare. We all want to protect our precious Ducks but Verbeek has earned the right to take the wheel here. He knows what he's doing.
Offer sheets are most likely going to middle range young players who have shown promise but might have a bigger role elsewhere. That makes guys like Zellweger more likely than a Leo ... some team might be like, "hey we can roll the dice on him, he's better than any other young D we have, so we'll pay him medium good money, and use him like a 2nd pairing guy." But the Ducks might not want to go to that price for his role here.
OTOH, a team like that may also first approach and say "hey we'll OS him if we have to, but we'd rather pay him a little less than it'd take to get you not to match, plus avoid the drama ... so let's just work a trade."
The top guys like Leo? The amount it'd take to even get him to sign would be so high, it'd reset the market for everyone. It's not like, say, Montreal can offer him 15m ... and then next year tell Demidov to ignore that and settle for like 9-10m.
