Speculation: 2026-27 Trade/FA thread/Roster Thread - Waiting for the SCF to be over….

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
I genuinely would rather have some replacement level $2m UFA than have Nurse at $9m. Nurse might be slightly better but I'd take the worse player + the cap flexibility.
Replacement level dmen actually cost a lot of money. Also, I wouldn't want nurse at 9 either.

Re: Nurse apparently Friedge also says he doesn’t know if Nurse would want to stay out west and most of the focus seems to be on Pennsylvania. Doubt we trade for him but if he was retained on enough I wouldn’t hate it, he’s not a bad defenseman IMO just has a bad contract.

A little afraid Pat pivots to Reilly because of how cheap he might be but hope not, don’t love that fit at all. Carlo’s lack of foot speed had me wondering but if they tolerated it with others maybe his contract being an ideal fit wins out.

I think any D we acquire will most likely be RHD. I don’t think adding to the left side is really a priority.

I see a top line LW, RHD, and goalie depth as PV’s main areas of focus.

Well yeah you're definitely right, guys like Ceci get paid. I just meant that I'd prefer whatever bottom of the barrel option.

All the talk has been that Edmonton is desperate to not eat any salary but who knows if they can get away with that.

Others have already said this but I suppose the idea would be to acquire a LHD that gives us flexibility to trade Mintyukov or Zellweger and still have depth on that side.

I actually won’t doubt if they bring in at least one additional LHD. There aren’t many RHD’s available and the majority of the best FA ones are coming from this team already. I wonder about Brett Kulak as a UFA target, he played the right side a lot in Edmonton, and I wonder about Kaiden Guhle out of Montreal as a trade target, I believe he’s largely played on the right side there as well.

Swapping Eklund for Stenberg is an upgrade as Stenberg projects to be a better scorer. For U19 in the SHL, Stenberg ranks 5th overall with a 0.77 ppg rate. That's better than Eklund and our own Carlsson.

The Sharks traded for Kesselring already for acquire as many darts as possible.

I don't know if they're hunting a #1D, but they're hunting a top-4D. This draft will have that type of talent at pick #9. At least one of RD Rudolf or LD Gustafsson will be there at 9th overall. Gustafsson has played 27 games in the SHL and his ascension to the NHL could be faster than the usual route to the NHL. It's more expensive to trade for a true top-4D than it is to draft one, especially if you have a top-10 pick in a top heavy d-corps group.
I mean fair. I just feel like refreshing your rebuild on the fly is risky

Some players I could see Verbeek liking / trying to snag . Just went through 25-26 and made a list of some guys . Not sure who or what for .
Well there goes Crevier … lol

Chicago got hosed lmfao

Man at this point I would have been happy for a Louis Crevier big RD trade to pair with Zellweger. Any big RD at this point….

Now that many teams made their big moves, it sounds like only the Blues, Canadiens, and Flyers are still interested in Mctavish. If we do move Mctavish we might only be looking at a Parayko+ and probably the latest of their four 1st round picks. I wish it was the 11th because I think Wyatt Cullen would be a nice nostalgic pick and someone that fits our draft preference. Canadiens are likely holding out on offering Hage, and likely offering something around Reinbacher+2nd which would be disappointing. I’m not sure if we would do a 3rd big trade with Philly, but it sounds like they are marketing Risto and Tippett, looking for a 2C.

Friedman on Oilers Now said he believes Anaheim is interested in Nurse.

It absolutely is. Eklund is a known good player, whereas any pick can be a bust. OTOH, maybe they turn it into a home run. Or maybe it just ends up a break even player ... but you had to wait a few more years to get there.

So yeah, there's risk there. And almost certainly pushes their window out a little farther even if it pays off in the long run.
