Speculation: 2026-27 Trade/FA thread/Roster Thread - Waiting for the SCF to be over….

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Ahh - was under the impression he was kind of miscast on the top pair
I think most top pairs around the league have one guy who's a true top pairing guy, and another guy who's not quite but plays there anyways. Like Beauchemin when he played all those minutes with Niedermayer. I'd have no issue playing him with LaCombe.

Remember how much everyone hated the trouba trade? Now everyone is pissed he's leaving.
I don't remember that at all. I remember the cost was so cheap that there was no way the Ducks could lose and he would bring some physicality to the team.

Now the reason people hate that he is leaving is (a) he seemed happy here (b) Verbeek had a whole year to get a deal done (c) his replacement is going to be expensive and not as good OR (d) his replacement will be cheap and just plain bad. Either way the team will be worse.

Here you go

At the rate the market is trending towards crazytown, we'll be able to package and trade Trouba, Gudas, and Carlson's free agent rights for a high pick.

I might be one of the few who was good with it. He just seemed a better fit with our young guys, both stylistically and from a L-R perspective, than Cam.

But depending on the contract, I'm also okay with not bringing him back.

Nurse however only works if we're flipping someone to RD.

I won’t read it but I can tell you that I was not critical of the trade at all.
Nobody called you out by name. Just reading the first page of that thread would tell you all you need to know about how that trade was received here by the vast majority of this board.

No, I get it. Probably most of the same folks that were up in arms when Drysdale was traded.

Friedman on Oilers Now said he believes Anaheim is interested in Nurse.
I had a listen because I didn’t believe it and it was more him speculating. Words were” I wouldn’t be surprised if Anaheim has shown interest as they have a bunch of holes on D all of a sudden”.

He also mentions that he thinks Nurse wants to play in the eastern conference.

Two different camps imo. The people mad at the Trouba trade are the folks who are obsessed with advanced stats. The people who were mad at the Drysdale trade were teenagers who had a crush on Drysdale, and/or casuals who had no idea who Cutter Gauthier was.

(and there's nothing wrong with being a kid with a crush on a famous athlete, but they're not exactly experts)

I think this is a really stupid trade by San Jose. Got into it with guys from my dynasty league discord who seem to way overvalue draft picks in general but especially this year. The sentiment is that Stenberg is incoming and makes Eklund redundant so they're clearing space and hunting a 1D out of the draft. Like. It's not impossible for Carels, Smits, or the others at the top to find a true 1D game, but they all strike me as #2-4 guys when everything shakes out. Eklund is an established second liner and they're flipping him and extra futures for a roulette spin on a guy that could bust, make it but end up worse, or be only just as good at the expense of two extra futures.

It just feels like refreshing the rebuild on the fly. It could pan out well, but unless that 9th pick is moving again, it feels like a less than optimal move.

Swapping Eklund for Stenberg is an upgrade as Stenberg projects to be a better scorer. For U19 in the SHL, Stenberg ranks 5th overall with a 0.77 ppg rate. That's better than Eklund and our own Carlsson.

The Sharks traded for Kesselring already for acquire as many darts as possible.

I don't know if they're hunting a #1D, but they're hunting a top-4D. This draft will have that type of talent at pick #9. At least one of RD Rudolf or LD Gustafsson will be there at 9th overall. Gustafsson has played 27 games in the SHL and his ascension to the NHL could be faster than the usual route to the NHL. It's more expensive to trade for a true top-4D than it is to draft one, especially if you have a top-10 pick in a top heavy d-corps group.

Change of scenery guys are our market inefficiency. Would be fine with nurse at $7 million if we don't have to give much up.

We shouldn’t have to give anything up, you kidding? I defended Pat on the Gibson and Trouba deals, but this is one with a terrible player who IMO isn’t even a top 6 option on a true contender and we’re in the division, even with retention, we better be getting assets coming back

To be honest I hope we don't get him. Not because I don't think he'd help the team, but the discourse will be cataclysmic.
