Speculation: 2026-27 Trade/FA thread/Roster Thread - Waiting for the SCF to be over….

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
With so many massive names available I think a huge three way trade is in the works

Larkin
Knies
Robertson
Hellyebuck

All seem like for sure getting traded plus:

McTavish Nurse 4th ov 9th ov Nikishkin with lots of smoke

Then lots of chatter about Matthews and Werenskis future.

Something massive is brewing

Servalli said Montreal and Minnesota want McT the most , mentioned Dach and Yurov. What a jackass. Dach and some nice assets I could like with but please for the love of god not yurov, just for minny to flip McT for Larkin. He tends to be wrong on ducks stuff but still hate even hearing that bs
McTavish for Wallstedt and a signed Hughes beanie!

Im not sure moving Knies really sets you back that far. Theyre getting the 1 oa pick who likely slots into their top 6. You still have Matthews and Nylander. Tavares produces like a top 6 center no matter what Toronto fans complain about. If you're getting a decent roster player back and can restock the cupboard a bit it makes sense. Sign Marchment and that top 4 pick is knocking in 2 years. Given they just signed Raddysh I think theyre retooling. Knies is just the most valuable replaceable asset. I just don't see him at the level of Matthews and Nylander and Knies doesnt have any protection making him the most moveable for max return.

Not long ago (maybe less than a week, can’t remember) Russo said the Wild had zero interest in McTavish. There is no one more tapped in to that organization than him. Unless something has drastically changed, I wouldn’t count on it.

And if they are both moved, you have to imagine Nylander won’t be thrilled to once again be the rat in last place on the boat and will also want out.
They could blow it up, and have a pretty huge haul this year and next.

Get mckenna this year, and be in the running for a guy like Dupont next year.

If they trade Knies for 4th+, you assume they are ending up with Reid or Carels.

Matthews should bring back 2-3 quality assets, same goes for nylander.

They don’t have their 1st the next two years

They don’t have their own 1st in either 27 or 28 so they have a pretty big incentive to be competitive.

I'm never going to fault anyone for wanting to get paid. It's not like he hasn't earned it.
Generally agree with this. However, in the context of a salary cap, players need to balance their earnings with playing on a winning team (not to mention state income tax implications). I don't fault a player for chasing the highest number (particularly in football where injury risk is high and contracts are not guaranteed). But I do understand why teams trying to establish a winning culture (Tampa, Dallas, Colorado, Florida) want players to take a little less for the greater good.

The Kaprizov contract is a real killer for Minnesota, particularly if they sign Hughes. They're at a real disadvantage in building a SC champion. We saw the same thing happen in Toronto where their young guys got paid a ton to the detriment of team building.

If the wild want McT it's because they know they aren't getting Larkin. I suppose he could be the backup plan to Larkin.

The problem is Trouba is gonna want term and tax offset. Even if, in his mind, he takes a cut to finish his career here, we have to tack on 1.5-2 million for that offset. I'd be fine paying him a bigger AAV deal if it was for like 2 seasons but he's probably gonna want 5+

And realistically, he's probably gonna be a flawed presence on the back end in the back half of the contract.
Guarantee he wants 5 plus years. No thanks!!! Your right about the off set too!

Apparently there is no backup plan, if they don’t get Larkin they’re gonna just wait for another big name to become available. Not even Trocheck, which is why that talk has completely cooled off and maybe why he’s open to the west coast now.

McT 100% is the backup plan for Larkin. My guess is that Larkin would have already been traded to the Wild if Yzerman liked the offer. I just don't know if the Wild have what Verbeek wants.

Risto, Carlo, Paryako .

One is gonna become a duck, it seems pretty obvious.

McTavish is gone.

Vatrano seems to be gone.

What moves do we make , otherwise.

Losing Carlsson, Trouba , Gudas, and potentially Viel + Terry injury is significant.

There’s no chance we just see extensions for Carlsson Gauthier Zell and Monty + Depth signings, right?

Andersson is a solid signing at right price imo. He’s sneaky physical and moves puck well. Lit up a few of our guys in 2nd round. Not massive , not small , either . Built like McT. Combined with one of those massive D and Luneau/Helleson/Moore, we’ll be fine on the right side. At this point, if we can move Vatranos deal and be freed from Kilorn , Kreiders cap hit in a few years I won’t mind a slight overpay for him. Something says he plays well. He was a late bloomer to begin with and has a desire to play west. He rejected a trade to Boston.

I honestly want to see a Hellyebuck or Larkin deal. I’d give up McT/Dostal for Helly tbh.

Still hoping for a surprise Pulock trade even with his shoulder surgery this offseason.

Dream is McAvoy for McT + but he’s a Boston boy and don’t see it.

Would you guys trade Lacombe for Werenski?

I am fearful McTavish stays but at same time it seems writing is on wall for McTavbitch.

We need more nasty grit and physicality

Yakemchuk + Greig is a lovely return for McT, I fear he returns less than expected, though.

Odd feeling we get back into 1st round for Zell/Minty. Lots of money for their deals I suspect

If we deal them , Nurse/Reilly could pop off here as replacements .

Do we strike a deal for Barzal/Robertson/Knies?

More I could add, but just So many questions , glad we’ll see answers soon. I just don’t want to see nothing from us. Perhaps I’m getting antsy for action . Apologies for Ted talk. Felt compelled to and Had a few drinks in Hawaii. Cheers to Friday!!! Stoked for what’s to come.

Wait you actually like Dach? The guy is being talked about as someone who might not even get a qualifying offer.

He's never healthy (missed more games than he's played over his last 4 years), and when he is in the lineup he looks mostly invisible ... and other times lousy. He had a pretty garbage playoff too ... only 5 points in 19 games, and most of the games I saw he was just flat out bad. He's even bad defensively too.

Seravalli is pretty out to lunch on that one.

I think he has untapped potential. Size and IQ. Reminded me a lot of Getzlaf in his draft year. Likely pans out as a Johansen but toolset is there for more if he can stay healthy . I think Montreal’s media also f***s with his head

I don't think he's going to start staying healthy anytime soon

0 chance pay me Anderson is on the beekers radar

Wishful thinking but:
Zellweger/Hinds/Moore (2 of them?) + for Whitecloud
1st++ for Parayko (if he'll only waive for So Cal)
Kreider for a mid round pick
Sign Mikheyev (or did I miss him signing?)
Re-sign necessary players

Gauthier Carlsson Vatrano
Granlund McTavish Sennecke
Killorn Poehling Mikheyev
Viel Washe Gaucher (?)

LaCombe Parayko
Minty Whitecloud
Hinds/Moore Luneau

Vatrano builds up his trade value and when Terry comes back, he can be moved to patch a hole.
