Not trying to overreact to the WJC but perhaps it sends balance to elsewhere. But I really don’t see anybody else but Hagens being #1.
The word I had heard, forget from where, was that that’s who the Flyers want as their A-number-1 center going back at least a year. But they’re not going to be bad enough to get him.

Latvia down 3-0 but this will be good for their goal differential if they can stay within 6

I don’t get why nhl network insists on doing their own coverage during USA games. Zero people want this. Just let me listen to TSN.

That’s just swell. Their grand plan to get “A-number-1 center” is as follows:

Oh, shit! I forgot about the Colorado and Edmonton picks! Trade up!

I didn’t forget about them.

Wait a minute. Is that why they've been so upfront about prioritizing 2025? I think that might make it worse?
They want another high pick but they’re not bad enough to get it. Using the Avalanche pick last year didn’t serve that purpose either. I think they’re lining up to just dump as many picks as possible into getting one guy this year and then go full boar to the playoffs.

have you had a chance to watch Schaefer much? Just seems like the epitome of a captain #1 D on a cup winner to me. and i like hagens a lot!
Yea, Schaefer is one of my favorite guys to watch in this class but I think people are getting a bit carried away with projections. Hagens is easily the better prospect imo.

What would you guys consider realistic outcome for Bonk and Luchanko considering flyers track record when it comes to player development?

Bonk 2RHD, Luchanko 2C.
Which at #22 and #12/#13 would be just fine.

Luchanko has more upside, he can skate, pass and play all situations, question is how far his shot will develop. If he develops an above average wrist shot to keep defenders honest, there's more potential.

Bonk will probably be a 6'2 220 D-man with slightly above average speed who partners with an offense first LHD and plays a decade in the NHL. Won't be a play driver, but sneaking up the weak side should hit double figures in goals scored on a regular basis.

I seriously doubt it, since Briere has to know that it's almost impossible to trade into the top ten, much less #1. This ain't the NFL.

I think their strategy is "multiple bites of the apple," between potential trades (picks and players they can move) and 6 picks in what looks like the top 45, they should come away with 3 NHL starters (top 6/top 4) or more.

Could be. But it’s also impossible to predict the relative strength of the latter half of the first round of a draft over a year out, so what evidence do I have of a process based in sound logic?

…..what. That would be a very good outcome. Should?! With one late lottery pick?!

TSN 1 spotted Briere in Ottawa checking out the talent at the Sweden-Switzerland game.
