2025 Usports Recruiting

A couple good LOI for the AUS (from the registry):

F - Colby Huggan (Acadie-Bathurst, QMJHL) to UPEI

F - Jeremy D’Astous (Edmunston, MHL…formerly QMJHL) to Moncton
Huggan is a high end recruit any year, I kind of feel like the guys we see like this going forward are local kids who want to play at home.

I mentioned it over on the UNB thread but I’m convinced Justin David will be the best CIS player currently in the MHL. He’s more raw than some of the Jr.A guys with major junior experience but I also find the high end MHL guys who never played in the CHL seem to have lower floors but often higher ceilings as they are very often late bloomers… He’s a future near point a game player in USports.

Best all around forward I’ve seen since another former Miramichi star Spencer Blackwell.

Would you guys say that the "quality" of recruits has gone down a little? Obviously the top guys are going D1 but do you find outside of the "high end" recruits, things have dipped a little?

I would have to say YES, because of the guys going NCAA and the number of recruits from Jr A going to the "bigger" schools who would normally get a top CHL guy. We'll have to wait until October to see how things work out.

I agree with you, the one thing I would say though is the "top" junior a guys who would have gone D1 before the rule change and are now going CIS, for the most part would have been 20-40 point per year CHL guys had they chosen that route... Have to wait and see like you said

A lot of U Sports teams have a lot of spots to fill…I’m most interested to see where all the players will be coming from to fill those spots.

I’m also interested in seeing the different strategies schools might take to recruiting this summer…are you more aggressive now trying to secure recruits just so you have a few guys on board? Or do you hold out until later in the summer and hope some higher-end guys become available…but with the risk of really hurting yourself if those recruits don’t come to fruition? I think this will be especially fascinating to watch in the AUS with the roster cap.

Definitely interesting for sure. I think once the transfer portal closes, and D1 teams decide on what they need, I think we may see alot of guys head south... I think we will see quite a few goalies make moves late too.

That's true. So you're saying that the X amount of guys who turn pro instead, will open up D1 spots which will make even more CIS guys go south...?
I think it’s that even more Junior kids who currently are heading CIS will get NCAA offers…

Someone like Braeden MacPhee at UNB or Colby Huggan at UPEI.

I don't think there are many "top" Jr A guys going CIS. There are several going to CHL for a year or two and then to NCAA.

The “top guys” who were heading to the NCAA originally in leagues like the BCHL are heading CHL etc sure … but guys who were fringe NCAA guys before the rule change may very well end up in USports

The top guys in leagues like the MHL and CCHL etc are all heading to USports.

Are things usually this quiet around this time of year? Or is this normal in amount of volume for commitments?
Playoffs are still going on, so players still in playoffs don't need distractions.
Lots of teams don't announce commitments until late summer/early fall, partly because players can change their minds if they didn't sign a Letter of Intent (LOI).
Obviously, with all the guys going NCAA, there are fewer to announce if you have them.

A guess lots of reasons....

On the NCAA side of hockey, it's all about the portal and transfers. Once that gets settled, you may see more movement from CHL and CIS to NCAA.

But, since you asked - Nolan Roberts (D) from Melfort Mustangs to Guelph
