Rumor: 2025 Trade Rumors and Free Agency | The Aftermath

I think the AHL is more competitive and a better learning curve to make the NHL than pretty much every single European league.

Just my $0.02.
The AHL is 100% the best option for young European players. You get to know the small ice surface and the differences between the NA and European game. More importantly, you get to know the actual life in North America vs your own home country.

Very rarely (if anyone can even come up with an example), can you say that a players' development was ruined because he played in the AHL before the NHL. The opposite can be said in many cases though...

I hope that Avs can draft a player like Pavel Bure one day. Too bad for those ankle injuries but I can still remember him playing for Florida. What a selfish type of a player but at the end helped his team to win some games.

I think the khl guys play that card to certain teams they don’t want to be drafted by. They’ll be much more non-committed about when they’re coming over to teams they want to avoid. It’s a reason you see certain teams that almost never draft Russians and others that consistently do.

It’s easy to see how living in Nothingville Loveland will make European players appreciate Denver more. But it’s a different game at that level and not always beneficial if they adapt to that game to the detriment of how the game is payed at the NHL level. The AHL is a mosh pit for the unskilled compared to the NHL.

There is a chance that Kiril the thrill might not want to resign with Wild. What offer would you guys make to Kaprizov to come to Colorado? 14M x 8?
We'll never win that bidding war. But if he specifically wanted here, I'd take him in and make space. He's one of those special players like Makar and MacKinnon that can carry a whole team. We would have 3.

Edit: It would likely mean no Drouin contract this summer and no Necas extension next summer. I'd still do it.

Nothingville Loveland? It’s Windsor and IIRC, Nordy’s hot wings were yum delish. Plus, the world’s best (and most expensive) small animal vet’s office is there. East Loveland has innumerable traffic circles. The Loveland Traffic Planner decided to incorporate the Nine Rings of Hell in their community.

FTR, before the Eagles became affiliated with the Avs, they had a really dedicated fan base there. They won the championship and then the Avs came in and shipped out a lot of their fav players. That’s one reason you won’t find me making fun of their announcer. The Eagles were a good organization that took care of its own and had really good fans.

Yeah, just imagine if Avs can skip the whole rebuilding or retooling process if we can sign a player of that caliber. Would have been awesome.

Yes, I also hope the Avs can one day draft a player like Pavel Bure.

He was good at hockey.

The Fedotov thing to me was way more unsettling. They involved the military and they did something to him that made him physically ill for a time. That was all kinds of f***ed up.

It'll definitely make some of these Russian prospects drop in the draft, but if there's a top-tier talent to be had, that guy will still go as high as ever. They will find a way to get him over to NA, even if they have to bribe all the Russian officials they can in the process.
Another interesting little factoid is that since CSKA (Fedotov's KHL team) is like the hockey team for the Russian military essentially, the players are actually considered military personnel from what I have read, and contract termination is a lot more dicey because of it

It used to be like that decades ago, but to my knowledge, it's not like that anymore. CSKA is owned by one of the big state oil companies now

I hate this

And he's wearing #8

I seriously may never forgive Briere for passing on him to reach and draft for needs.

This guy was predicted to go top 5 last year, somehow fell to Philly at #12 and they swapped picks with Minny and gifted him to them.

Then the Flyers proceeded to draft a center, Luchanko, who was ranked like 2 or 3 tiers below Buium (not to be confused with 2 or 3 spots).
