The AHL is 100% the best option for young European players. You get to know the small ice surface and the differences between the NA and European game. More importantly, you get to know the actual life in North America vs your own home country.I think the AHL is more competitive and a better learning curve to make the NHL than pretty much every single European league.
Just my $0.02.
Very rarely (if anyone can even come up with an example), can you say that a players' development was ruined because he played in the AHL before the NHL. The opposite can be said in many cases though...
