Over on the Edmonton board they are saying that the word from their local writers/insiders is that the Oilers are looking at Soucy or Dumoulin.
They probably want to give Henrique back to us. He’s having a waiver year.

I know they have a former Hart winner, but I can’t see that ever happening.

NHL network first shift about to have some duck content after the commercial break “
I would rather be the ducks than the Sabres Boston or Buffalo right now, they will be exciting in 365 days “ the guest mentioned all our young guys(most haven’t heard of j lacombe and he’s great, they have lunuea coming up and zellwegger ready to make a jump)…hradek asked “ is Zegras part of the future in Anaheim” a very fast and hard no “ verbeek knows what it takes to win a cup , he wants a heavy hard style to win. They are set at center, and Zegras is a center being played in the wing I don’t see him as a #1 center but he will do well to be moved. It’s told he wants to move back east anyways. “ -Steve kouleas no clue who this is

There is so much irony to this statement. Pat knows how to win a cup because of his time with the Lightning who won with Kucherov and Point playing major roles, neither of which I would describe as having a "heavy hard" style. And Zegras is out here throwing the body, pestering people... He has been one of the hardest players to play against on our roster lately.

Didn’t Zegs say he really enjoys being in the Ducks. tough to take this guy at face value, feels like he’s just spitballing because Trev is from the east coast.

I will say, it’s very very strange to see Zegras still playing on the wing, when he’s been himself vocal about wanting to play center. And Cronin himself calling Zegras a #1 center, this could all be verbeek using him at wing because he prefers Leo and MacT develop as centers ( because they are core long term players for us)

In a vacuum it's strange but looking at the team I don't think it's that strange.

He's not going to replace Leo, Vatrano/Strome/Terry are basically glued together. I would have liked to see him with Gauthier and Colangelo but if last night's any indication than that line is also good.

Vatrano and strome having their place above Zegras on our team also is telling, to me.

Interesting. Ive heard Kouleas name before but no idea if hes to be taken seriously or not. This kinda goes back to a previous post of mine. Zegras continuously being in the rumor-mill has to mean something; either insiders just like the flashy name and will make up whatever they can to drudge up interest and talking points or there is actual fire where there is smoke.

If Zegras silently wants to go east or to a bigger market, then that explains the rumors. What I dont buy however is the "heavy hard style" comment. Even some of the biggest, toughest teams have their skill guys that arent in the mold of a "heavy hard style" guy and Zegras isnt one to shy away from contact, especially recently. He can be the straw that stirs thing up, still make some hits and be a PITA on the ice... and bench. Zegras' style CAN fit in with any team.

Now if its a matter of playing center, then thats a decision the front office needs to make. We still have young guys like Gaucher who can slide into a 3rd/4th line center role. So if they have decided that Leo and Mac are their #1/2 C of the future, it makes some sense to at least see what you can get for Zegras.

If zegras has been leaking rumours to build the narrative that he’s a weak player who would wilt in the playoffs and that you can’t win with him just to go out east then brother needs to get to therapy asap lol

Problem is, we already have Terry and Leo as core players who also don’t play a hard and heavy game. Maybe Zegras is just one to many for verbeek liking. They try and tell Mac to play like Brady tkachuk. Rhats not happening either. Verbeek has an idea of a heavy hard team to play against. He might really want to see that through

Leason out, Pageau in
Get errrrr done verbeek

Thats also a strong possibility

On that topic

I find this somewhat vindicating, something about Clarke has always given me pause compared to the hype

I agree but I also think it’s a big mistake for the Kings to trade him right now.

The Kings should be selling and retooling IMO. Instead they’re going to buy and go for it with Kopitar and Doughty again. Won’t work for the hundredth time

Yeah they shouldn't be moving key young pieces unless getting the same in return. Not in all that different of a spot than we were at the end of our window. They'll flounder in mediocrity unless they commit to a retool/build

Elite players that also play a hard, heavy, and physical style don't really grow on trees and aren't available very often, so I'm not sure how Verbeek would even build that sort of team with what we have now.

Our current core is basically Zegras, Cutter, Leo, McTavish, Terry, Zellweger, LaCombe, and Minty at this point. Outside of Zell none of those guys are really what I would call tiny or undersized (Leo will hopefully bulk up a bit), but none of them are really physical or hard to play against either.

I think being hard to play against especially in the playoffs comes more from experience and getting a little older and getting that "man strength" than having to be a thug that's banging on the boards all the time. You don't see teams with a bunch of 18-22 year olds physically dominating very often.

Maybe verbeek agrees with you, maybe he doesn’t.
