Well you can't exactly sign those guys as UFAs now can you?Expand your horizons. Have you considered options that might have a year left next year? IE - players who have 2 years left on their deals right now.

No but you can trade for themWell you can't exactly sign those guys as UFAs now can you?
No but you can trade for them![]()
Hard to say this far out. I think some teams might become sellers next year who you wouldn't expect, I guess. Never know whose situations might change and make someone available all of a sudden.Doesn’t that presume another team has a spare 2C, one of which has a year left that it’s willing to trade? I don’t know if there’s such a situation elsewhere. Is there?
Like Malkin
Or Dach

AJ said the Avs liked Frederic and that they and the Bruins were talking about a possible big trade involving him and other pieces. Also said Carlo was of interest, but later said the Avs couldn't get it done due to lack of assets. Seems like he was pretty accurate with the Boston smoke at least. My thoughts in (xx).

- Hurricanes made a mistake, fine, but so does everyone. Nonetheless, I actually like how they were able to recover from their mistake and get the deal they got from the Stars. Stankoven will fit in their system as Jarvis 2.0. BUT they then failed again by not flipping those two 1st rounders for NHL roster players. I am not talking about rentals, but trade those firsts for legit NHL players and be a team built on depth instead of having star players. That's where they lost the plot for me, but them going after Marner wasn't a bad idea.
- Oilers huge losers as well. I actually like Walman a lot, even though you can also debate whether he's a bit overrated as well. He fits the system and reduces all their other trash defenders from getting more minutes. BUT, to waste their little remaining cap they had on a defenceman who doesn't really fix their issues instead of going after a goaler, even Mrazek for a back up spot is insane. Everyone was so happy in Oil Land when they signed Skinner and Arvidsson in the off season, but I laughed how those moves do nothing for them except destroy their cap structure.
- I really liked the deals that Ottawa made. Cozens might never become a 60+ point centre, but his talent is worth the risk, while shedding out the 68 shoulder injuries Norris. Getting Zetterlund is awesome, I am a huge fan of him and wanted Avs to draft him big time. He's going to be a great complementary piece for them.
- I don't know what the f*** Detroit is doing. They already have a solid goaler tandem yet Yzerman goes out and decides to get Petr to keep the three-headed monster goaler rotation that NEVER works out? Craig Smith is having a good season and was a good get there, but wanting Mrazek in the deal is so stupid. If he was forced to get him, then okay, but get a third team involved so you can trade him to them.
- Why didn't Trotz just trade Luke Schenn for those two picks instead lol? Nonsense GM-ing there.
- Canucks folded their cards after seeing what we, Dallas, and Jets did lol. Jets needed a 2nd line centre big time if they don't think Lowry can get the job done. Tanev is an awesome get, but doesn't fix that issue. Schenn is overrated AF, he blocks shots, but doesn't have the same style of game that Chris Tanev has.
- Also, I watched half of the stream on SN and then the other half on TSN. Holy smokes, TSN was just a huge joke. They have really dropped a ton in quality the last decade. SN had a lot of good blokes on it besides McLean. I get that Friedmann gets a lot of hate on here by some posters for his speculation, but he seems like a good down to earth guy. On TSN, all their insiders definitely smell their own farts. Dreger, McKenzie, O'Neill, Gord Miller, and LeBrun all come across as giant pricks and are so unlikeable. Dreger got raked over the coals by Elliotte in the insider game as well. TSN were mega losers.
- AJ had a 0% success rate when it came to insider info yesterday...again. Please, we gotta stop quoting this bloke when it comes to deals, he knows nothing.
Praying Rantanen is Huberdeau 2.0 (which I think is VERY possible)
Also this rocks.
He should, Drouin is not a threat to shoot they need to get him off PP1.Is Brock gonna play mikkos spot on the PP
Bobby Mac is the goat don’t lump him in with those foolsMy thoughts in (xx).

Tbh I would’ve still claimed him off waivers.
He's washed.Bobby Mac is the goat don’t lump him in with those fools
You can’t be washed if you’re already retired thoughHe's washed.
Then what is he doing on the TSN panel? You can’t be washed if you’re already retired though
He works like 1-3x a year for them. The TDL show, and then the draft rankings he does where he consults w/ scouts. Then what is he doing on the TSN panel?
Somebody needs to give ole Bobby Boy a lesson on what retiring meansHe works like 1-3x a year for them. The TDL show, and then the draft rankings he does where he consults w/ scouts.
I mean he is retired though. He no longer works like he did a few years ago. You could say that he's retired from his full-time job w/ TSN and is now just a consultantSomebody needs to give ole Bobby Boy a lesson on what retiring means
He like grampa working as a greeter at Walmart.I mean he is retired though. He no longer works like he did a few years ago. You could say that he's retired from his full-time job w/ TSN and is now just a consultant
So he's just adding zero value then and watching the other fart-smellers embarrass themselves in front of himI mean he is retired though. He no longer works like he did a few years ago. You could say that he's retired from his full-time job w/ TSN and is now just a consultant
Well this is a weird axe to be grinding. So he's just adding zero value then and watching the other fart-smellers embarrass themselves in front of him
I'll never understand the reverence this guy gets. He's just a glorified shill for NHL teams
For sure, not sure I ever really confronted this feeling prior to now lol.Well this is a weird axe to be grinding.
McKenzie was one of the best--if not the best--to do it. I don't know why TSN brings him back, but he doesn't detract from the festivities. He doesn't take away, and given how Friday went I wouldn't say he necessarily added a whole lot either.
But I have always enjoyed McKenzie more than Dreger, for instance.
Nah, he's trash. When he told Colin Campbell which people to suspend like he was a big deal in the NHL, he lost a lot of respect from me. All he is, is an insider, yet he thought he was big enough to tell other people how to do their jobs like some sort of lobbyist and I very much dislike lobbyists.Bobby Mac is the goat don’t lump him in with those fools
There's a world where Landeskog comes back at a good level and the Avs suddenly have 5 top 6 forwards (listed below), one of which could logically be a piece moved in a package for a 2C if Nelson walks.I think re-signing Nelson is pretty high risk, but I don’t really see an alternative.
They have no 1st, 2nd, or 3rd round pick in 2025, or 2026. Their prospect pool is non-existent. They can’t trade for a 2C.
So you probably need to give Nelson a 3X $7.2M deal, or something like that and just hope he ages well.
I wish they could’ve gotten Boston to retain on Coyle. Like the player, but 5.25 is a lot for a 3C.
2027 1st + Nichushkin/Lehkonen + extras might create interesting conversations.Bye bye Necas then.
We aren't getting a center better than Coyle for any of Colton/Manson/Girard.
