I’d trade Ritchie to acquire Nelson. There are caveats. 1. You have to be committed to signing him. 2. You have to be reasonably sure he’ll age reasonably well. He’s still a strong skater at 33.

I think he’s worth the risk. Maximizing the window of 29 and 8 is > Ritchie.
If you could re-sign him he'd be worth some assets. I know everyone thinks he's going back to Minnesota but why play for the Wild when you could play on the Avs and own the Wild?

Yeah. I didn’t mention this but if his game suits the way Colorado plays, I’d assume he’d appreciate being out of that straight jacket he was in for so many years on the Island.

We can get him without Ritchie.

Ritchie should be untouchable because having a 2C on an ELC would rejuvenate this team cap wise.

Is this truly "Foppa?" If so, two questions to reveal your true identity: (1) Who was the best protector for you during the Avs Stanley Cup run? (An easy one.) (2) What was the nickname that some of the Detroit Red Wings gave you?

Yes this is Foppa. I've taken a back seat with my Crocs empire and I have more free time now.

I had many protectors. Scott Parker, Jeff Odgers, and Andreas Lilja. Danny Hinote liked to say he was my protector because he fought Zdeno Chara once, but I would tell him there's a difference between bravery and stupidity.

The Wings used to call me Floppa, but I only dove because I had bad feet back then. The Crocs healed them. Wanna buy a pair?

I'm aware, but a prospect of that level has never went for the perceived best player available at the deadline?
I'm relatively sure there are some other ones, but Dallas trading Iginla to get Nieuwendyk pops immediately to my mind. Capitals trading Filip Forsberg to Nashville to rent Martin Erat is another one. It's rare, but it happens.

Ritchie isn't going to be a 2C on his ELC. At least not on a Cup contender. Drury is already slated as the long-term 3C. Ritchie should absolutely be dangled/traded by next season latest for a legit 2C

Brannstrom for Stone is a recent one as well. Brannstrom was still pretty highly thought of when that one happened.
