Roster is out. Adams and Bednarik the only real misses for me. Release also mentions that EJ Hradek and Tony Granato will be calling the games for nhl network. No Starman is a HUGE win

Fiddler is a bit of a surprise, thought he was quite weak in the prospects game and absolutely got danced by Murtaugh

I’d be fairly surprised if he actually makes this team. This feels like more of a recruiting pitch with an eye on getting him to commit to the US and play on the 2026 and 2027 teams

Typical USA Hockey. They love their mediocre grinders who aren’t good at hockey and have no NHL future. We go through this every year. They get bailed out once every four years by a bunch of first round picks balling out. It allows them to justify all their mediocrity otherwise.

They’ve made worse selections in the past, but there were a lot of ones this year that make no sense.

Defense: Skahan and McCarthy should both be on the team, let alone at the camp.

Forwards: They basically penalized Bednarik due to missing their stupid summer tournament for a personal issue. He plays same team and same position and has a clear better pedigree and performances this year than Svoboda (another grinder with no NHL future) that geniuses like Chris Peters will advocate for. Shaugabay not making the camp is ridiculous. Swanson should’ve made it, even if he wasn’t going to make the team. Including some of these grinders who can’t score a lick over the USHL player of the year is crazy.

Goaltenders: What’s the point of the third goaltender being someone that won’t be back next year? Seems like such a short sided decision.

For what it's worth, Will Skahan has been injured and hasn't played in the past few BC games. Unclear what the severity of that injury is, but could have played a role with that selection at least.

Most of the guys you'd expect to be there are there. Adams is the biggest surprise omission for me. He'd be on my team. You can squabble about other guys (i.e., Shaugabay) but it's splitting hairs. There are no indefensible omissions. And NHL prospect status doesn't matter much when inviting players.

It should be a gold or bust tournament for the team. It would be nice to go back-to-back because the next couple of WJC iterations after this tournament look like they could be weak.

I definitely agree that we get too caught up on the final cuts. Most people’s Top 9 are there… maybe missing Adams. Top 5 d were pretty much locks and they’re there.

One thing I did notice: I think they put a premium on guys who played well in Summer Series. Svobida, Pelosi, Ralph, Burnevik….all guys that it wouldn’t have shocked me to see cut….all guys who played well in SS.
