I’ve been happy w Eiserman today. I agree w the idea stated above: he should shoot first and think later. But he looks like he’s involved in the whole game today.

I love Svoboda. He does so many things well.

I loved Ralph this summer. Not so much today

Hensler has been a lot better today than he was at the U18. Hopefully he can keep building on this game.

I appreciate Moore's hustle and pace, but I just feel like it never results in anything very useful. I think you need to put him with more skilled linemates and let him just be that wrecking ball that puts pressure on the D and forechecks well.

Ralph is not it.

Sloppy game but a comfortable victory nonetheless. Good to face a little adversity early and from an opponent where you may not expect it.

Hagens, Hensler, Hutson, and Perreault were the standouts for me. Have to like some of the bottom six guys like Svoboda and Ziemer showing well, too.

A game to forget for Augustine and Buium. I can't imagine that they won't be much better in the rest of the games, which bodes well for the team.

PP needs to be more crisp. I'm sure that'll be a big focus for tomorrow's practice.

Postgame thoughts:

-Starting with the obvious, not Augustine's best game. With his history, not tremendously worried about it.
-The top line was as advertised. Created dangerous chances all game and finished them.
-I thought Buium also had a tough game. Uncharacteristically a little loose with the puck and a couple defensive lapses.
-Eiserman's play was reassuring. He looked engaged and willing to distribute as opposed to just looking for his own shots. Nice to see him get rewarded with the goal at the end.

I've always gotten a stick out of saying that Cole will be a better player than Lane, and I'll probably continue to get it, but I still stand behind my opinion.

I've been a fan of Ziemer since last spring and I like the way his career is developing.

10 goals and 56 shots is a dominant offensive performance, but still lots to clean up from that game.

Buium is a terrific player, but should take off the Superman cape. He doesn't have to do it all.

Augustine has too much success to think he'll falter after an off-game.

I also think that this game showed how thin our defensive depth is. Buium and Augustine have off games, and the team gives up four goals to a team that seriously might not score 4 goals the rest of the tournament.

Some of these defensemen were really weak. The third pair was brutal. Ralph brutal. Fortsecue and Hensler were okay on the positive end.

Let's see against a better team. Need to tweak the defense a little and get a better effort from Buium or Augustine. Otherwise, we'll give up a lot of goals.

Hasn't been talked about a ton, but Hensler showed very well imo. Nothing super flashy, but a lot of very calm and composed passes under pressure, and a good job using his big frame on defense while staying in control.

Don't think there was a single mishandle or bad pass in that entire clip. Lost one open-ice puck battle, but recovered nicely. Provided the stability to let Hutson do his thing.

Quite impressive.

Yes, he didn't make the team
For some reason, eliteprospects page still has the selection camp cuts listed on the roster. Emery, Fiddler, Pelosi, Spellacy. They are listed without a number, because they don't have a number, because they aren't on the team.

If the NHL just flat out missed on another Hutson and let another great player slip into the 2nd round because of size, that would be pretty funny.
It will be funny if Hutson and Cristall end up panning out to their potential in the NHL and the Caps were able to swoop both of them up in the 2nd round of back to back drafts.
