need this as well, as a gambling degenerate. will eiserman be on the top unit with the first line and buium? i like his value of goal scoring leader at +2000 if so
Burnevik started camp on the top unit. No reporters at the pre tournament games for the US so I don’t know what the units actually are but Burnevik had a goal assisted by Perreault and Hagens in the second game so I’m guessing he’s stuck with the top unit thus far. Eiserman likely pp2

Things I’m watching today

1) Eiserman either needs to net a couple or play a full 200 foot game. I can live with him not backchecking if he looks like he’s just going to snipe us to the GMG. But if he’s not going to overwhelm teams offensively, I need him to block a shot or lift a stick in our zone every so often.

2) Can the third line threaten? The criticism of USA seems to be that they’re “top heavy”. Looks like they’ve tried to spread out scoring by putting Moore on the third line. If that line scores, it will be trouble for the rest of the world.

3) Can Hutson play like Buium? If we get two D pairs with a genuine offensive threat, we’ll be set up well. Watching Cole at BU, I’ve seen really good glimpses but I’ve also seen stuff where he tries too hard to make a play that isn’t there. Buium seems to have figured out the balance.

4) I trust that we can skate by bigger teams. Don’t think we’ll get a sense of that today, but I hope we’re not susceptible to getting pushed around later.

My favorite day of the year! Can’t wait.

It's a shame the WJC has such a low profile here in the USA. Don't know how to fix that.
Agreed that the tournament is basically nonexistent in the US. Even amongst Americans who do casually follow the NHL, most won't have even heard of the WJC.

This isn't surprising given that the games basically exist in obscurity in the US. Absolutely no one in America is stumbling upon the NHL Network. And the NHL Network doesn't even have a live stream to pull up even if you have a cable package with that channel included. Having them on ESPN+ alone would go a long way.

Certainly a shame because best-on-best international tournaments where there is some semblance of parity in the sport are incredibly entertaining events.

How has Stiga looked like in the Exhibition games? Any reason to expect goals from him? Is he included in the PP2?

EDIT: Nevermind, just saw the lineups above.

The defensive pair changes are good. Kleber should be sitting.

Stiga I don’t get when we have dudes on the bottom lines who add nothing, but I guess we aren’t allowed 12 good forwards and always have to roll with a few liabilities that can’t take a shift.

I don't understand why Carle would leave out Stiga. His versatility and compete level have a place in any lineup. He has played the PP and PK at BC, and BC even listed him as a defenseman in a recent game when they were going through a spate of injuries. If you want to put Plante with Moore/Ziemer then whatever, but scratching Stiga altogether doesn't make sense.

So Connelly takes Stiga's spot on the second line 2. Don't like it, but let's hope the former has his head screwed on right.

In Carle we trust.

1st period overreaction: need to see more out of the bottom 9 if this team wants any chance at gold. Not a ton of sustained possession against a German team that they should really be able to overwhelm.

First game, though. First one last year was ugly as well.

It's always nice to see someone who didn't get a big role in the NTDP finally make it to the WJC team. Burnevik has taken great strides in the past two years.

Sometimes it's hard to understand rules and refs. Is there really anyone who wants to see hockey where this last situation is a penalty?
