So Kostandinski is added to the preliminary roster

ASP minus 4 from that game by my count. I get that he puts up points and has a good shot for the PP, but I’ve just never seen it with ASP.

Wasn't paying a lot off attention on him particularly, since he is one of the players I wasn't worried/curious about. Solid, felt like he was one of the players who didn't frequently look lost or slow out there. I wish he took some more iniative at times. He can really sling some darts up the ice when he decides to(did a couple times this game), and this team sorely needs that.

Seems like we're keeping last years pairing of him and Willander together. Considering how important they are individually to this team, as well as how well they played last year, I have big expectations and hopes for him this tournament. They have to make up for having a weaker team to work with this year. We'll see once the real tournament starts.
They might need to break up the Lindstein - Willander pairing and put ASP with Lindstein to cover for his defensive mistakes.

I think they would have added Zether to replace Berglund, but Zether is injured. Preferably they should add a c/fw, but the names mentioned play predominantly fw. Maybe Frondell, but I think Alriksson is the best guess.

Looks like ASP messed up slightly trying to pinch on the first goal, but it was Gustafsson who missed his coverage. But other than that, what kind of defensive mistakes do you see?

Thelin straight up misses the puck on the tying goal, the go ahead goal is a odd deflection off a Swedish player and nothing he could have done on the Cowan goal, he even tied his man up.

Since you like to rely on +/- it's worth mentioning that Lindstein is +5 on a team that is +29 while ASP is +4 on a -1 team.
I like Lindstein, and he's better defensively than ASP... But looking at highlights and +/- is not how you reach that conclusion.

ASP has been excellent defensively in two straight tournaments. Lindstein is definitely not more sound defensively.

I’m not just basing my opinion on highlights and +/-, but I can see how my post might’ve come off like that. I watched every minute of every team Sweden game last WJC and plan on doing the same this year if my schedule allows.

I think ASP is way overrated as a prospect and that he owes much of his success last tournament to Lindstein - Willander pairing taking the tough defensive assignments. Frankly, I thought he was the third best defenseman on that team (likely this team as well).

Willander and Lindstein pairing took much tougher defensive assignments last tournament and had better results. Lindstein is absolutely more sound defensively IMO, Willander as well.

Not everything is about wjc. Ever heard of Leauge play?

Definitely agree that Lindstein-Willander was the best pairing last year. And ASP never stood out that much last year, so yeah it'd be fair to say he was the 3rd best.

I don't agree that he's a defensive liability though. It's just hard to judge a players defensive capability in WJC when it's for the most part controlled chaos out there.

All Swedish junior coaching since Rönnberg has been utter trash. Knowing that Hävelid probably won’t even make up for the Frondell mishap here either.
