WJC: 2025 Team Canada Roster Talk

One of the worst Canadian WJC teams. And it was self-inflicted.

Basically sat half their team at home trying to win some imaginary 7-game playoff series with grinders.
The top skill guys did NOTHING all tournament.

McKenna was a non factor - you could make the case he was a negative. This team was SMALL, stupid and mistake prone.

Losers from the top down. If the entire U20 brain(rot) trust aren’t all fired tomorrow and barred from ever being involved with HC again it’s a national disgrace.

NOTHING has gone Canada's way in this tournament. NOTHING. The officiating has gone against us, the bounces have gone against us and, of course, we have not played well.

If we can somehow come back... maybe things change.

To my eyes, Canada has looked small compared to ALL the other teams. We cannot get to the net. I'd prefer more size and grit.

Size and skill are not mutually exclusive

There is a lot to criticize for sure but I will give the players credit they completely dominated the last 40 minutes. With better offensive skill they could have had several goals. The effort was there the talent not so much. Also the head hit on McKenna was worth a 2 minute penalty probably would have changed the outcome.

So the Canadian Hockey League allows imports on each team to develop within our system and then they score the winning goal on us.

I’d bet that the US doesn’t allow these imports into their leagues. It’s just a guess though

Way to develop other countries players Canada
The NCAA absolutely allows import players.

Well a valiant effort the last 40, but too little too late. Discipline undoes the team again, Cameron in over his head, didn't even use his timeout.

I root for good hockey of which we've seen the most of from other teams and for 1.25 periods tonight with Canada vs Czechia.

Poor plays and execution come with practice, chemistry and play development... something the coaching has to be able to provide time and guidance for.

It's not the kids' faults - maybe individually yes, but not the roster.
They made endless stupid plays. Was the coaching poor? Yes, but the players need to take responsibility too.

I feel bad for the players, they were clearly trying but holy shit this was one of the most questionable rosters I've seen in my time following the tournament. I'm hoping that back to back failures at least leads to change in HC's decision makers and maybe rights the ship going forward.

Only people I feel bad for right now are George and Ivankovic. The rest, from HC to coaches to players, got what they deserved.

Would have been useful to have more skill guys to back them up.

This is what happens when you only have a few of them and then grinders.
The grinders scored 2 of our goals. Czechia won with a bunch of BIG low skill players.

At the end of the day, NOTHING went right with this team. It is what it is.

McKenna was 16 a week ago and isn't even eligible to be drafted until NEXT year. You can't put it on him lol

Why does his age matter? He's the top player on this Canada roster. Likely the #1 pick next year.

I'm not putting it on him. I just saying saying the belief that players like McKenna (or Misa) would make a difference is/was wrong.

Horrible way to lose. Can’t imagine.

Usually I hate having US play Canada for one of two reasons (sometimes both): 1) they have a couple high end offensive players who can take over at any moment …or 2) they have that ferocious forecheck…just wave after wave of pressure that eventually wears you down.

This years group seemed to have neither until the last 20 minutes of the Quarters.
