All Blake has delivered to fans as GM is a series of soul crushing gut punches in trades and built a horrible organization with a boring style of play... after being a disloyal gutless coward as a player. Did I miss anything?
All while being an arrogant, smug asshole that dodges what little media there is and creates lies about former players?

DL miraculously turned LAK into a FA destination because of the culture he built. This regime has quickly destroyed it. We will probably not see that again in our lifetimes barring some miracle.
He didn't do it that much.

Lombardi said to a couple of us back when he was GM that getting free agents to sign in LA, in particular, was very difficult because of the image that Los Angeles isn't safe and that it's not family friendly - consequently, older FAs with families weren't as inclined to move far from home into a place they felt wasn't family friendly. It's why he had a much easier time signing younger players/college free agents. It was easier to pull in younger guys who weren't ready to settle down.

Lombardi still didn't pull in many major free agents. He had to overpay with some of them (or get reclamation projects, like Willie Mitchell who had concussion issues).

Yeah, they missed out on Chara, Brad Richards, and Kovalchuk in the first few years Dean was here, so then he pivoted to trading for guys instead. I think Mitchell was the biggest free agent he signed and he was coming off a major concussion and needed an extra year to come here.

I shouldnt have written FA - because I was more thinking players wanted to come here..e.g. Richards, Carter and Gaborik all waived NTC/NMC to come here.

That's great news! Tons of "1C" reclamation projects out there. Going to make getting a center so much easier when Blake strikes out on good centers.

but seriously, if i'm Blake, the best thing to do would be nothing

i'd take my chances by dropping to 8th and face the Jets

Potentially winning the series and the false hope that'll go with it

I dont think they'd even get past anyone, let alone Winnipeg. The way this team it built, this year especially. I'd sell a few pieces, but the one thing this front office has shown us is they are in complete denial on what they are. Never going to happen though

Rich get richer.. Avs get Brock Nelson - give up a lot

Must be nice to be an Avs fan.. made 5 trades during the season all bolstering their team - complete revision of goaltending. All meaningful action. Then there's moribund LA nothing in 2 seasons.

I really hope he finishes that book - and has a chapter dedicated to how he used the Kovalchuk situation to learn how to deal with the hierarchy above him while having no interest in the player.

They are a legit contender though, with prime, high-level stars.

The Kings are the bizarro Golden Knights. Using the future as currency for the present, but with the kind of results you would use as a cautionary tale instead of success.

They're right though. LA isn't safe or family friendly. That's why you live outside LA and visit it. The most I've heard, and it's a problem for a lot of western teams, is players don't really want to be too far from home.

I guess what Im saying is if you are going to pretend to contend, then at least do some of the fun things like a deadline move or 2. Of course the wiser side of me is glad they are standing pat and maybe the charade is just external at this point.

Dallas about to get MR.

What’s Blake’s excuse for keeping his job. It’s not fair the other teams got all the good players?
Re Dallas.. i dont get what theyredoing.. they are 2nd in the West in goals - why they need a scorer? What they need is a replacement for Heiskanen who is month to month and may not be ready for the playoffs.

Random question @FSL KINGS would you trade Trevor Lewis for 3 first rounders?
Are we talking Leafs or Buffalo firsts? You'd have to for Buffalo firsts. Late first for Blake to take guys like Björnfot & Kaliyev, nah. Not worth the pain. Just enjoy a King's legend.

I was thinking to myself - what could possibly redeem Blake's destructive and gut wrenching tenure. Ans: If he moved Kopi and Doughty tomorrow for picks and/or prospects and resigned.
Risto & Laughton
Or
Savard retained
Spence & Moore for JJ
Dump Doughty anywhere
Burroughs on the next Starship

I really believe this front office has the capability of making great let alone good trade that will truly benefit the Kings, it more likely we overpay for a 3rd or 4th liner and we are back at again next with same results, one and done. I think only thing to have this franchise move to the next level is a complete overhaul of front office

Yep, there isn't a trade out there that will push the Kings past the Oilers. Watching all the trades other teams are doing sucks on an emotional level but logically I am pretty sure it's the right move.
I have no confidence in Blake trading for the right guy anyway.

The Isles did real good here. The Avs top prospect, a late first in a potentially deep draft , and a 3rd in 28' The Avs got a very good rental who will need a new contract.
