2025 Summer Transfer Rumors and Discussion Closed Window

I mean the closest signing to this that LFC have done would probably be when they got Fernando Torres? And that was like almost 20 years ago
Yes Torres vibe for LFC. One of the best young player in world football. Alisson and VVD while big names were not to the level of Wirtz at the time of their transfer.

I am a bit more pissed that everyone got their nuts chopped off and LFC just came with one of the easiest signings ever after Haaland went to Man City with no fake bids. F***, City put in fake bids over us for Rice like three times to get his transfer bid higher. Nobody decided to do that with this move, Pejorative Slured clubs.
When you win a title it gets a lot easier to sign whoever you want. Think that’s what happened here. Can’t think of any other reason this would be so easy.

Bayern won a title too and is in Germany. I agree, LFC winning the title is a big difference maker to make him choose you lot over other clubs in the EPL, but Bayern backing away like he's rotten apple is a shite move no doubt. Didn't even try to make a bid. Yes, I am fuming lol.

I’m not that sure Musiala and Wirtz would be a good fit on the team. There is a story going around that Wirtz met Kompany and didn’t care for what he heard.

Bayern didn’t back down, he rejected them.

Also suggesting it was “easy” is laughable. As fans we have no idea what went down in the discussions or pitches. Bayern, City and Madrid have been monitoring him for a year now and within the span of a week we swooped in. It’s a testament to the vision of leadership and Slot but any pitch is difficult, from low level sales to world class football. They made a gutsy push and it’s paying off.

I’m saying easy because it didn’t drag out for months. I was also third party to a high level sports pitch that was actually extremely easy but that’s a long story there, I made some assumptions based on that.

Do not kid yourself, if Madrid was really interested, he'd be in Madrid.

It could have worked, but it would have probably impacted all of the way Musiala, Kane, and Olise play best to make work. This was a lot more a prestige/ego "the best German players play at Bayern" thing from Hoeness and Co. than necessarily fit/need.

Which is also part of why Wirtz and Bayern thought it was not a good fit.

For Wirtz, he realized by talking with Kompany that his role might not have been clear and straightfoward. Maybe even as a squad option and not even as a starter.

For Bayern they would have throw 150M on a player they don't really need. Just to collect the best german player available.

Nah, I wouldn't go that far. Him and Kane, Musiala, Olise would have been the locked in starting group without question. But yes, in terms of need, it is really hard to argue there was any when already having Musiala and Olise there. I'm sure Eberl would have liked Wirtz, but I do wonder if it's maybe a small reprieve for him to be able to put money into areas of actual need instead.

On the United bit, man, it’s a tough situation. Almost Spurs like ironically. You either back the manager and pray it comes off, or you have to cut bait. He’s not changing how he plays for anything. Players they buy for his system, as he’s going to need a few, won’t inherently be fancied by whomever replaces him if it fails. If you’re buying top shelf guys, I think managers can figure it out, but I don’t know if that’s the quality level either side can attract.

I think where both Spurs and United are continuing to go wrong is they’re still not dealing with manager who improves what’s there almost more so than saying he needs 4-5 more guys. Slot, for whatever it’s worth, took players he had and said I’m gonna make them better. Klopp too. Emery, Arteta. You can fill in what you need as you go, as you can’t do it all without, but gotta improve what’s at hand.

I also can’t fathom the idea that United will just slaughter the fruits of their academy to get money to spend. That’s a crime against a long history of the best United sides. You could say what you want about Liverpool, but part of the reason many are mad with Trent is it’s the spirit of the club coming through the academy that is being turned over. United flogging off Mainoo and others is going to be awful.

Don’t care. We are back on our perch motherf***ers. I have waited decades to see what we will finally get to see on Sunday. The only question is when I cry tears of joy over it.

Been watching every game since Sopcast. Real ones remember

There’s always been a logical flaw in the FSG complaints. They have never been unwilling to spend. They learn as they go. They have been opportunistic of late, but always within the means. The budget is better right now and they learned from the last title. They didn’t improve from strength and it took a bit.

I will believe it when Wirtz is announced but FSG are a weird bunch. They will agree to spend on huge fees for some players but I still vividly remember when the club was competing for top 4 a couple seasons ago with VVD, Matip and Gomez out for the season. FSG were very tight about spending for any reinforcement and LFC had to get a loan for Kabak and they also got a guy out of the championship that never played I think his name was Ben Davies. Or the year LFC won the league, they could have got Bruno Fernandes in the following summer to improve the team, he was available, the fans wanted him, he would have injected the creativity that missed but they refused to do any business that summer instead of wanting to improve from a position of strength and spend nothing.
