On the United bit, man, it’s a tough situation. Almost Spurs like ironically. You either back the manager and pray it comes off, or you have to cut bait. He’s not changing how he plays for anything. Players they buy for his system, as he’s going to need a few, won’t inherently be fancied by whomever replaces him if it fails. If you’re buying top shelf guys, I think managers can figure it out, but I don’t know if that’s the quality level either side can attract.
I think where both Spurs and United are continuing to go wrong is they’re still not dealing with manager who improves what’s there almost more so than saying he needs 4-5 more guys. Slot, for whatever it’s worth, took players he had and said I’m gonna make them better. Klopp too. Emery, Arteta. You can fill in what you need as you go, as you can’t do it all without, but gotta improve what’s at hand.
I also can’t fathom the idea that United will just slaughter the fruits of their academy to get money to spend. That’s a crime against a long history of the best United sides. You could say what you want about Liverpool, but part of the reason many are mad with Trent is it’s the spirit of the club coming through the academy that is being turned over. United flogging off Mainoo and others is going to be awful.
