2025 Summer Transfer Rumors and Discussion Closed Window

Don’t know who the source is but this is interesting if true. I’m guess long Writz snubbed them and their saving face.

The reality is tho they saw Echeverri for 15 mins and said he’s the goat

The last time I remember Man City putting a similar statement was when LFC got Van Dijk. They wanted him a lot but they dropped a message to social media once LFC agreed to get him that the over inflated price made it impossible for Man City and they dropped out of the race. They got Laporte instead.

LFC also did something similar when apparently Jude Bellingham became too expensive (in all honesty they got rejected) dropping a message that spending so much on one player was not conceivable. Fast forward to end of August and LFC offered more for Caicedo who finally joined Chelsea instead.

I think a lot of club do not like to claim they were not favored by a player so they will say the player is too expensive or that they will look into more sensible transfer opportunities.

I think there's at least some hesitation with cost for them given they might miss the CL next season and it'll be hard to justify making up a bunch of sponsorships with no CL football and the fact that they're just wrapping up the massive investigations.
Wouldn’t they wait a few days then? It’s likely that he just told them no

Hoping for 60+
Me too.

Via MEN:

The other clause Man United included in Carreras' exit to Benfica was a significant sell-on clause, in the eventuality he did move on to a different club so they are still able to bank a tidy fee.

Another crafty possibility, one which would greatly aid the club's compliance with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) would be to re-sign Carreras then sell him straight to Real themselves.

Good thing Wirtz isn’t on BVB then. Hes on the same team that sold you Havertz because they didn’t want to send him to Bayern
I am not a Chelsea fan.

E: Well, Wirtz has to agree with it. Kai came to the EPL because he agreed to come to England. If Florian's view is set on Bayern and staying in Germany, then this discussion is a "woulda, coulda" scenario.

Hojberg's loan move from Spurs to OM made permanent for 13+ million

Juanmi's loan move from Betis to Getafe made permanent for 1+ million

Havertz went to Chelsea instead of Bayern (or Madrid) because Chelsea were basically the only team with cash on hand in Summer 2020 when other team’s balance sheets got wrecked by the unexpected loss of gate revenue and were conservatively positioning due to uncertainty surrounding when gate revenue would come back. Chelsea took advantage that summer of a market short on buyers. I wouldn’t read too heavy into it re: implications for Wirtz.

Conversely, Gotze and Lewa aren’t comparable situations because they were, respectively, a release clause and a free. BVB had no choice over the former, and elected to keep Lewa til his contract ran down rather than attempt to cash in a year or two prior.

per bbc:
Man City,
"The decision to withdraw from the race to land Wirtz should also be viewed as a commitment to Phil Foden's role in Guardiola's plans."

Uhmm... Foden? After his disappearing trick for England and City? That will get pep scratching his face off.
Foden is no KdB.

They actually might have used too much of the summer budget in January

We’ll get Cherki for so much less and in five years wonder why we ever thought of doing something else.
He scares the shit out of me but he would be a ton of fun. But again he has to stay in shape. Chiesa barely played this season because Slot didn’t like his conditioning, and we know Cherki conditioning is his weakness. Part of me would want to roll the dice on the argentines but Cherki for what he will cost with his ceiling? If you get him right he’s at the minimum a match winner

Yeah I mean Wirtz is better than Cherki but it’s closer than most people think.

Cherki I just see Ben Arfa more than Fekir. Don’t think Cherki has Fekir’s knee(s) though
Yup if they were similar or even close to the same price the answer would easily be Wirtz but at 150M is just insane. I don’t think they difference between them is 100M

I don't get the deal with Cherki. He hasn't been reported as a 50M player, more like half of that. Feels to me that everyone should've been after him at that price, but reportedly there have only been some half-assed attempts by BVB and PSG.

Is he just that fat?

It really isn't.
Cherki has played well and lots of minutes since finally being out as the leader of the team.
Cherki is incredible and IMO not inferior to Wirtz down the line. He just needed a bit more time to explode.

There’s frankly less money in the market than there used to be. If Chelsea, Saudi Arabia, and City aren’t spending piles there’s just a lot less for everyone else. New team owners inflate the market completely and there’s less of them.
