Any of you guys still trying? It is pool weather so lets do it. I have around 4-9 pounds still to go. I only lose around 2 pounds a month. 3 pounds in a good month. I have lowered my goal weight several times. After I reach my goal of fat loss around my mid section I plan to try to add back around 5-10 pounds of muscle.

Ironic that I made this thread today.

I ate a little too much yesterday and today lol. :D
I bought a mountain/trail bike last Fall but never had the chance to drive it until yesterday when i was able to get an hour of solid pedaling in on a trail beside our home . I was OK after the initial burn in my legs subsided and it was fun . My weight is not that bad but my gut is increasing because of loss of ,muscle tone mostly due to age and heart troubles the last few years and lack of exercise . Haha...I took my ID with me in case I dropped dead and somebody found me.....one never knows these days once you are over 60....such is life !

I get into moods for a few months every year where I trick myself into thinking I'm going to make a lifestyle change. I'll go for walks/use the treadmill, do some moderate daily exercises..then will skip "one day to relax." One day turns into 7 months and my food baby just won't reach full term. Rinse repeat. I could stand to take better care of myself again, especially since my job is WFH and the most movement I get most days is when I have to leave the house for meetings.

I'm surprised your back was not sore. My back gets sore if I have not walked or rode a bike in a while. I ride a recumbent bike 35-45 minutes a day. I used to dread it but sometimes now I enjoy it. Bringing your ID was very smart! I have mysterious aches now in my old age. :D

I had gained a lot of weight after my dad died. After 2 years of diet/working out I'm now lighter than I have been since high school. Feels cool not to have to worry that people think boy did he get fat anymore lol. :D

I was the same way. When people used to discuss getting a high from working out I would laugh and think that never happened to me but in the last few months I occasionally get it. It is a miracle! :D

I haven’t been on top of my workouts recently. It’s enough of an ingrained lifestyle thing that it doesn’t make a huge impact, being off for a month, but I start to feel sluggish and restless so I want to get back after it.

The job I had landed a while back didn’t work out; the base they guaranteed wasn’t what they paid me during “training” where I would also not make commission for 90 days. 90 days of training on a 25k salary wasn’t gonna cut it for a family. As a result I’ve been working damn near 70 hours a week bartending and waiting, trying to hold things together (unsuccessfully, but at least it’s income) and so I’ve been distracted, burnt out and, while not over doing it, drinking a couple of beers most days since I work in a tap room.

It’s kept me away from the gym and I’m starting to get the itch to get back after it. I did try skating with my kid today - it’s his birthday - and my right knee just isn’t having it anymore when it comes to tight cuts and lateral cross overs. I can still get around better than most on the ice, but I’ve definitely lost my silky edges and explosive change of direction finally. 39 years old ain’t a bad run.

39 is still a youngster. I have had 2 issues pop up out of nowhere for no reason in the least 2 weeks. Did not get those at 39 :D

I’m 55. Winter is here with a vengeance and have changed my workout routine. Was doing Stronglifts for a couple years but not real happy with progress. Started German Volume Training (10x10 at about 60% of my 1RM) about a month ago and am already noticing a difference - my quads and hams hurt like buggery for 4 days after leg day and I’m always hungry.

GVT is brutal!

I typically dedicate 30-45 mins, roughly 4-5 days a week. I use to be doing closer to 60-90, but have gotten older (41) or just lazy af.. Other than playing hockey I don't really do a lot of cardio, so I tend to incorporate more core body work out into my routines which takes a lot of time away from actual weights. I'm at the point where I only do about 3 sets of every individual, weight related exercise.

But I'm like Lafreniere, I generally skip leg day.. (Mostly because my back and sciatic issues.)

I Retired in February. I have been able to reduce my caloric intake by sleeping much through breakfast. When you miss a whole meal, the math gets easier! Win!

Yes, food and booze are the vices that get me through life. Working in a brewery with good food definitely makes it a challenge.

I should go back to GVT and have two deadlift days per week. It will definitely burn a ton of the excess beer calories and give me the best bang for my buck. I can’t squat anymore, period. And I hardly do any free pressing movements because of my shoulder, but I can still rip 500+ off the ground and do a solid mix of everything else with free weights and some machines for my pushing movements. I should just do a modified GVT for push-ups too (60% of my max total x10). I need to get motivated.

Just got an exercise bike from a coworker for a good price. Gotta keep riding. I was about 200lbs when I was playing when I was younger. In good shape. Hockey 5 days a week. Bike to and from work. Worked as a barista and bartender. No longer work on my feet and don't bike to work and only play 2 times a week, maybe 3.

Im 225ish now. Would like to lose 15. Here's to hoping. Good luck to you guys too.

When you look at 15 pounds (and you're over 220'ish), it all starts with the diet. Cutting out sugars. Drinking more water/seltzers and less of everything else. Coffee - black. No late night snacking. 2-3 weeks of that will see a much bigger improvement than riding the bike for 3-4 times a week. 30 per session.

Once you lose the initial 10-15 pounds. Then it starts becoming difficult and the exercise is going to really help the diet and work together..

Calorie tracking apps really work if you are trying to eat in a 500 cal deficit. Walk an hour in the heat everyday. And if you could, do some resistance and/or sport 3-5 times a week. But seriously tracking the calories alone will do wonders.

Yeah for sure. I drink a lot of water already. Holdover from being young and just constantly active. Im a sucker for some chocolate. But who isn't? Haha. Been doing much more salads and vegetarian meals. I am trying to keep my meat and poultry to special occasions. Makes it more fun to go out with my girlfriend and friends to get food.

But like I said, I'll goddamned if I give up my trader Joe's dark chocolate covered pretzels. Haha

I also like beer a little too much so I have been switching that to hard seltzers and with the heat where I am its actually quite nice. They are lighter, but the sugar in any alcohol is always gonna get ya.

if you’re trying to lose weight you should be loading up on chicken. More protein = more satiation = less cravings. I was losing weight easily when I was eating a shit ton of protein because I was always full.

I do a lot of resistance training. I try to resist the urge to order pizza once a week and honestly by that metric, I'm doing really well.
