I haven’t been on top of my workouts recently. It’s enough of an ingrained lifestyle thing that it doesn’t make a huge impact, being off for a month, but I start to feel sluggish and restless so I want to get back after it.
The job I had landed a while back didn’t work out; the base they guaranteed wasn’t what they paid me during “training” where I would also not make commission for 90 days. 90 days of training on a 25k salary wasn’t gonna cut it for a family. As a result I’ve been working damn near 70 hours a week bartending and waiting, trying to hold things together (unsuccessfully, but at least it’s income) and so I’ve been distracted, burnt out and, while not over doing it, drinking a couple of beers most days since I work in a tap room.
It’s kept me away from the gym and I’m starting to get the itch to get back after it. I did try skating with my kid today - it’s his birthday - and my right knee just isn’t having it anymore when it comes to tight cuts and lateral cross overs. I can still get around better than most on the ice, but I’ve definitely lost my silky edges and explosive change of direction finally. 39 years old ain’t a bad run.
