Red Sox/MLB 2025 Regular Season

Silver linings
7-7 could be worse
Devers went into yesterday game amazingly tied for most hits 14 in April
Buehler looks like a guy who’s going 16-8 3.50 ERA if he’s healthy

How about that 14 hopper to the plate by Abreu in the 10th. How come outfielders can't throw any more?

They talk about Abreu having a great arm. Can anyone imagine Dewy Evans, Roberto Clemente, Rocky Colavito, David Parker, etc. making a throw like that with the go ahead run coming home? Reggie Smith might have launched one into the box seats, but never dribble one into the plate.

I guess we can all assume you missed this game the other day?

No, I didn't.

Part of my point. Its why people say he has a great arm.

But back in the day, guys with great arms (and there were a lot more then) didn't flub throws in big spots.

And that throw from the other day, look where Abreu is. Its shallow right field. Not a long throw for a high school kid.

He does have a great arm, sometimes the ball leaves your hand wrong when you’re rushing

He was throwing 95 mph on average from the OF last year, it’s like the 98th percentile or something like that

Evans is my favorite player. He had outstanding fundamentals and an absolute cannon. That doesn't mean every throw was perfect. He's celebrated for this catch and for doubling off Griffey at 1B. It wasn't a good throw. Griffey isn't out because Evans is a great outfielder who made a great throw. It was offline because he hurried it. I don't blame him, it was Game 6 of the '75 World Series. Griffey's out because of a bone-headed baserunning play. Abreu has an excellent arm. It wasn't a quality throw in the 10th. The two aren't mutually exclusive and bad throws happen.

This is funny.

Abreu bounced it they showed him pissed after Middlebrooks mentioned he was upset with the throw

Statcast confirms his arm is elite up there with Clemente, Ellis Valentine, Evans, and Jesse Barfield.

Think of a golfer muffing a shot

I have seen plenty of shanks from the best in the world golfers.

Scottie Scheffler, the current number one in the world had one last year.

That throw didn't need to be perfect, just needed to get it in quickly. Griffey's not even in the picture when the play is made.

Well, I can't argue with statcast.

Though my original point was about outfields today not throwing as well as in the past, not Abreu in particular.

Ump Mark Ripperger called a perfect game with balls & strikes in the Twins/Royals game last night, only the second time that's happened since they started keeping track of the umps.

He looked solid last night. I think if he pitches like that and he actually gets some run support he could have an even better record. His fastball had some pop for an arm after 2 TJ surgeries.

I’ve never thought of Evans as a HOF and I watched his entire career - someone has to be very good. However, as much as I liked Harold Baines it’s ridiculous he’s in over Evans. Same for Mazeroski over Grich and eventually Pedroia
