Red Sox/MLB 2025 Regular Season

Am I nuts or have all the vibes out of spring training been very bad?

Pissed off Devers
No Crochet extension (hot take, which might really be a lukewarm take: I don't think he's on the team in 2026)
Bello hurt, Crawford hurt, Giolito hurt, Hendriks hurt, Yoshida hurt (and probably pissed off)
Houck really bad
No Big 3 extensions

I'm probably missing some things, but I'm thinking about how much positivity and excitement there was on February 15th when Bregman signed and how it's been downhill from there. Like, we should be excited about Kristian Campbell, but it kind of feels like he was just given the job and didn't actually force their hand.

It's not all negative though. Crochet looks amazing. I think good Buehler might be back. Fitts and Newcomb might be surprise contributors. I'm feeling optimistic about Story and Rafaela. But my positivity is mostly based on the Yankees tough spring training and Orioles not making moves to improve.

Wost case scenario for them this year is not 70 wins and Crochet sucking.

It's 82 wins and Crochet winning the Cy Young. That happens and we should all push to bring the Braves back to Boston.

Rafaela switched to #3

When they came out for introductions everyone had red undershirts except Casas, of course, who was wearing blue. It really feels like this guy is trying very hard to craft the careless head in the clouds persona.
Story had a different undershirt. Several had no undershirt.

It looks like MLB relaxed uniform rules. Adolis Garcia's belt is green, Duran's belt is some shiny metallic thing, Story's cleats are baby blue. I hate to sound like a old man yelling at a cloud but I don't like it. I'm all for variations in high socks/low socks, undershirt/short sleeves, etc., but aesthetically the mismatched accoutrements look doesn't do it for me.

Nice win on opening day. Have a day Abreu. It's a pompous statement, but boy did he stay on/through the ball well. (I still say .250 with moderate power, but he sure looked better than that today. Duh)

Cora knows his pitchers well. He knows who has the live arms in that pen.

Crochet was decent but he really, really does not impress me. He is a two and a half pitch pitcher who has no real change of speed pitch. He is a thrower and not a pitcher.

I bet he goes five hundred and leaves, bet you dollars to donuts in fact. That was an awful trade. Should have spent on Fried or Burnes.

Campbell struggled defensively. His throws were everywhere. I hope it was just nerves.

Casas continues to disappoint. Devers does not look like himself. Like Swayman, I do not think this year will go well for him. We shall see.

Devers needs to stop only looking to hit home runs, and work on getting hits. Doubles, etc. Get on base. His big home run swings  every at bat has to stop.
He was more than strong enough to go with pitches, even with that long swing. I am not too sure he can stay through the ball anymore with those bad shoulders. Again, we shall see.

I was getting 2008 Manny vibes watching him today. Trying to hit a home run every swing, and not caring if he strikes out.

I am telling you, it may just be that he has to pull off the ball with those bad shoulders. Even when he went the other way, he had one of the most violent upper body-driven, torque-filled swings I have seen.
I feel like it's only a matter of time his shoulders have the same issue again

Yep, I agree. In fact, I kind of implied it fwiw.

I do think Cora and Fatse should get him back to his old swing but I wonder if it is even possible. It has been a while since he looked like himself. I am hoping for the best.
It's been at least 3 years.

Hopefully they fix it sooner rather than later 🤞
