Is that automatic or do they have the ability to call it a single?
Umpire discretion

It'd be a single with ump's discretion to award him 2B, which frankly would've been the correct call if replay overturned it.
Honestly, I had no idea you could review fair/foul balls for stuff put in play. I only thought it applied to HR's.That’s what worries me.
I think I’d rather just have that be non reviewable.
One at bat? This is EXACTLY why Mayer didn't start, and woin't start all weekend against LHP. But you know...Cora sucks.
N
Not judge, sitting Mayer.....Playing mighty Romy and Rob ref nothing worked...Toro in particular sucked. He was outmanaged and they will lose another tight one
Probably worth noting that left-handed hitters are hitting .118/.196/.137/.334 against Tim Hill this season. If you want the kids up here I ultimately want them playing everyday but when I have limited viewing of Mayer against lefties he did look totally overmatched in a key spot last night. It's a tough balancing act for Cora. Let the kids grow while also trying to win now. I don't think it's an easy position to be in.
I think it's pretty obvious that the Red Sox are going to do everything they can to manipulate both these guys service time, unfortunatelyHow's a young player, called up in his first season, ever going to learn to hit LHP if you don't give him the ABs? If you wanna pinch hit for them, in a situational spot, fine. But they need to be in the lineup EVERY day.
Its June. You've called up Mayer and Anthony and they need to play. A lot. Regardless of who's starting on the mound. They also need to STAY UP, for the remainder of the season. Those are 2 guys you don't ping pong up and down between AAA. You throw them in the deep end, give them a ton of exposure to big league pitching, and you coach them while they work through their issues and gain experience.
Good Big League managers and coaches CONTINUE to develop young talent at the MLB level. They're not just button pushers.
What was your favorite memory from the Brian van Belle Era?
