GDT: 2025 Playoffs - Second Round

if Tavares was smart he is going to wait and see what Marner does, if Marner leaves than there is probably no reason for Tavares to stay as the Leafs are probably not going to be a cup contender any time soon again, at that point I am sure Tavares is going to decide if he just cares about making money or winning a cup and I am sure both of those things won't go together as no real cup contender is going to offer him a generous contract
The Canadian media thinks he’s a hall of famer. I’m not in the crap all over the JT thing, but he’s had a ‘nice’ career, but he hasn’t done much of anything to be a HOFer.

His best chance at hardware went away when Lavy pulled his goalie with like 5 minutes to go down 1 I think to give Benn the Art Ross. So no hardware or cups it’s going to be hard for him to be in the HoF

That’d be hilarious if no one wanted JT and he’d have to take a league minimum with an Anaheim

interesting....watching some Leaf pressers....

JT - well, it is JT, but talks in the present about his future with the Leafs

Marner - all Leaf talk is as if in the past....you feel nothing but that he is done and is looking to be out of there....at least that is what i walk away with after watching.

Going to Toronto hurt him in a lot of ways, at least on paper.

The narrative when he was with the Islanders was that he was dragging this team to the playoffs and the supporting cast wasn't good enough. He needed more talented players to have more success. Going to Toronto and having three other superstars, not producing at too much of a different pace from his time on Long Island, and having less playoff success than the Islanders in the same time span makes him look worse. He also had to give up the captaincy, which is kind of embarrassing.

You absolutely cannot go to a better situation, have less success, and then have people give you flowers. It doesn't make sense. The NHL is Toronto-centric though so he might get in just because of that.

JT needs more hardware to enter the HOF.

If he wins a cup, or an art ross, richard, hart, something like that, he would be in for sure. I agree that at the moment he hasn't done much to earn it.
