I heard a rumor that Tavares wants to sign a retirement contract with the Islanders on July 1st. Apparently the Islanders are interested and want to make him the captain again.

The rumor comes from me, who is as reliable a source as you're going to find.

if Tavares was smart he is going to wait and see what Marner does, if Marner leaves than there is probably no reason for Tavares to stay as the Leafs are probably not going to be a cup contender any time soon again, at that point I am sure Tavares is going to decide if he just cares about making money or winning a cup and I am sure both of those things won't go together as no real cup contender is going to offer him a generous contract

His best chance at hardware went away when Lavy pulled his goalie with like 5 minutes to go down 1 I think to give Benn the Art Ross. So no hardware or cups it’s going to be hard for him to be in the HoF
