Edmonton will win it this time in 5-6 games. McDrai is due. There’s been 2 rematches before this one in history. 83-84 obviously we won in 83 then Gretzky got his in 84. Red Wings and Penguins in 08-09. Wings in 08 then Crosby got his in 09. Now McDavid will get his.

He went through it last year. He'll be wiser. The whole staff will be.

I hate that they don't have Hyman there. That's a bit of a loss. He was even hitting everything in site in these playoffs.

They have some depth though.

I personally want the cup drought for Canada to go another 30 years so my grandkids think America invented the sport.

I was not alive for the dynasty era. So my POV is maybe more influenced by my perception of the oilers as a mediocre franchise for the majority of the time I have been following hockey. They have been awful for so long it is hard for me to hate their success now, especially when they have a player as entertaining to watch as McDavid.

As far as cup 5? Yea, it would have been nice, but it isn't like they were the Florida Panthers to our Carolina Hurricanes, CONSTANTLY denying us glory. It was an even joust. We beat them, they beat us. The islander dynasty motivated the Oilers to be better in a way that, had they not battled us, they maybe never would have.

Plus they are in a few odd respects our parallel / sister NHL team. Identical main colors, both 80s dynasties.

I do think this is one of those generational islander fan things

@seafoam as a child of the 90s, I am curious - thoughts on the Fisherman jerseys? That is another one that doesn't bother me at all, but elicits uh, a rather visceral response from the dynasty era fans.

Born in '94, I have much more respect for EDM than FLA.

As a fan since 75 who saw it all, Panthers remind me in so many ways of Isles Dynasty squads. Some differences but many similarities. No Denis (Victor Hedman was Denis in Tampa) but deep, skilled, big, physical and with ability it seems to turn it on when pushed and can play a heavy or skill game. Nice mix through the lineup especially after adding that rat, Marchand.

Barkov is the closest to Brian Trottier I've seen in a while. A bit less nasty but a superb, underappreciated and perfect 2 way #1 Center.

I don't have any hatred for the Oilers as some of us old timers do. Nothing like I have for the Rags or Leafs. I'd like to see #97 get his cup. Team is fun to watch.

Having said all this, I am most proud of the Isles 19 Consecutive Series Winning Streak. Any time it's remotely in danger in any sport I take notice, last time being the NBA Warriors.

That's reason enough for me to want to see Cats taken down.

The Fisherman jersey to me was too ahead of it's time. It's like when we used to see wildly futuristic concept cars from all the major car manufacturers and ultimately were the base for the future generations but they we're tuned back quite a bit.

My favorite jersey was the 2020-2021 Reverse Retro.

The McDavid Oilers I enjoy watching. Also I don’t have to live amongst their fans, so there’s no real hatred towards them now. The Boys on the Bus Oilers I couldn’t atand.

I don’t like either team to be honest, but love watching McDavid. There’s no one close to him right now in the game. I’ve been a fan since the first Isles-Oilers battles for the cups, and generally never want the Oilers to win, but I also hate Florida - the players, the franchise, the state itself. I’ll be annoyed regardless of who wins.
As for the fisherman jersey, I like it - always have. I hated the lettering and numbers, but loved the logo and colors. Problem is, the jersey is connected to the team, GM and owner at the time. Other than Palffy, the team was terrible, then Milbury made it even worse.
