Speculation: 2025 Off-season Thread

There is a chance players eventually tune out Bednar and they’d have no choice but to make a coaching change. Losing in the 1st or 2nd round year after year usually gets to players and they just stop listening to the coach. I think another year of 1st or 2nd round exit and Bednar is gone.

Hell, the old guard got Hartley fired a year after the Cup in 01

They really love Bednar so he’s getting a longer leash, but what I’m afraid of is when they finally decide to let him go, there won’t be any good coaches available (Avs luck)

Maybe if Avs start the next season poorly and struggle for a while, there will be a coaching change, but it’s gotta be a lengthy struggle, like playing sub 500 hockey for at least couple of months. Does anyone see this happening?

I don't think so. As much as I think CMac has assembled a paper tiger, the roster is a lot better than it was going into this season. Bednar was winning games with a 2nd line of Ivan-Mittelstadt-Kovalenko and Georgiev in net. The team's issues are mostly playoff related, IMO.

Slow ass and probably poor system fit O'Reilly > Nelson as the 2C. At least I know he's going to compete.

Didn't all those guys sign 5 year contracts? Matthews, Marner, Kaprizov, Makar (6), etc.
Marner and Makar had 6. Matthews tries to nickel and dime the Leafs.

Matthew Tkachuk in Calgary is the comparable for Kaprizov. Elite winger in a meh market not wanting to commit long term after ELC. We'll see.

O'Reilly has Fantilli and Johnson on his wings. The kids can do all of the skating for him.
Stacked. Do they have any other exciting team that can compete against them? This tournament is usually pretty shitty.

The things I would do for our center depth to be MacKinnon > Crosby > ROR.

Crosby
Horvat
O'Reilly
Danault
Hayton

Celebrini - Crosby - MacKinnon
Schenn - Horvat - Konecny
Fantilli - O'Reilly - Johnson
Cuylle - Danault- Foerster
Hayton

Sanheim - Dobson
Weegar - Spurgeon
Matheson - Montour
Evans

Binnington
Fleury
Garand

This is why Crosby coming to Colorado wouldn't solve our 2C problem. Those f***ers would insist on playing together.

Oh yeah, they wouldn't go through all that just to play on different lines.

Most people: "Oh but they'll be on the PP together."

No, they want to play together all the time. Period.

You guys still remember when Pittsburg had Darius Kasperitis (nicknamed - Kasper) the Lithuanian on their bottom six. We need more hard working players like him.
