Proposal: 2025 off season HC search - candidates

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server

I didn't really see a thread but maybe there was one. Who is your pick & why? I'll start with Torts.

Tortorella has chastised players in the middle of the dressing room or even on the bench during games, and there were times the confrontations were uncomfortable. They left the rink angry with him on occasion, and they often disagreed with his coaching decisions and/or his approach. But they also were emphatic: They never witnessed Tortorella crossing the line to being verbally or physically abusive. But he will go through a "brick wall" for them.

Is he the guy to take this ship & turn it around, possibly?

Torts is not the answer. Hell if we are going for 66 year olds, at least Q has had actual sustain success instead of burning out at every stop in a trainwreck.

I would make a strong run at Carle and see if you can get him out of Denver. Don't like going down the no pro experience aisle again, but I would make an exception in his case. I think he would be great with a young roster and could grow into the role as his players grow into a winner.

4. Mike Sullivan, Pittsburgh Penguins
Sullivan has been Pittsburgh’s coach since December 2015, and he’s led them to two Stanley Cup championships, giving him a lot of leeway in the nine years he’s been on the job with the Penguins. But every coach eventually reaches his "best before" date, and considering that Sullivan’s Pens have failed to make the playoffs for this season and the previous two seasons, the Penguins need a change behind the bench.

🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

No more first year coaches. As much as I like Carle that is the last thing the Hawks need again (although I'd take him over Torts lol).

I think I’m less worried about who, but more worried that I don’t want a passive quiet rookie coach.

Don’t think Torts would have any interest in coming here at all so I’m not sure he matters for this discussion.

Torts just got canned...
No way should KD hire him.

I can see Mike Sullivan.

However I woukd like to see Brent Seabrook as HC...maybe he can hire Keith and Toews as assistants.. or Hossa and Hammer?

Think creatively...not sone old tread failures..

These are the Blackhawks.
It will be local boy Tony Granato.

Sabres fans seem to think he was a positive on the development end of things. Edit, misread as the wrong Granato.

It's a really tough thing. Fans want to win, people need to be held accountable, etc, but you don't want to kill confidence in players who are simply going to get out worked & out muscled at this point in their career.

That said, I don't think it will be him for obvious reasons.

Hawks need to key in how to balance it all out regardless.

Absolutely no on Torts.

Sullivan and Tocchet are good names if they are canned from their current jobs. I'd also be cool with Gallant.

Carle would be interesting, he's apparently the next big thing coaching wise, but not sure I want yet another coach new to the NHL.

David Carle head coach

John Tortarella Assistant

Mike Keenan assistant

Ed belfour goalie coach
I'm all for Carle. He would be an incredible hire. No NHL experience but I think has a great track record with young guys.

Also, I am far too busy to coach. I'm busy makin' whiskey, racin' cars, and livin' large. Amen, brother.

I was curious the number so it turns out the average HC job in the NHL is 2.35 years. Are we lucky enough to find someone that can stay double that with success, I hope so but probably not odds wise. On the other hand, the bar is pretty low right now so I don't think it'd be hard to find happiness in little things.
