the emergence of Bichsel has helped tremendously, or else I do think Nill would have been a lot more aggressive at the TDL.

That being said … I still would love to add a 4-6th Dman. We have the cap and assets to do it, so might as well spend to obtain a depth dman. It shouldn’t cost much either and it’s better to have options, especially if they go on another deep run. Ideally, I want Smith no where near the starting lineup so if they can push him down the depth chart to #9, and Dumba to #8. That’s depth.

My worry is if we don't get another D, then Dumba is playing until Miro is back from injury. What's worse, PDB giving Dumba the Nils treatment (and essentially running 5D)? Or Dumba playing 12 minutes a night? both are barf.

I don't want to end up running 5 D like last year, nor do I want to see Dumba any higher than 8th on the depth chart when fully healthy.

Team is better with Bichsel in the lineup than any other 5/6 D.

Not ideal but I don’t think Dumba playing 10 mins a night for one round will kill us, or tire out our guys that much, especially when Miro is scheduled to return early in the playoffs.

But like I said, I much rather Nill go out and get another depth dman to bump Dumba down as the 7th D for the time being that Miro is out. And I do believe Nill will get a depth dman.

Agreed, like I said, Dumba should be our #8 D when all healthy.

Would anybody take Dumba in a hockey trade for a 6/7 rental? They get a supposed NHL dman back for next year that they could try and flip again if he improves for a even better asset similar to what San Jose did with Ceci. This would be the perfect scenario to me.
 
Marek had Pierre McGuire on his show today. They both said they think Ryan Donato is a fit with the Stars. Marek doesn’t think Jim Nill is done. Purely speculation by him. I’m kind of with him though, I think Jim Nill is going to surprise us

I'm just surprised at how many rumors there are around us looking at forwards. Especially ones that are scorers

It would really surprise me if Nill acquired another scorer, but I wouldn't mind it at all. Guys like Donato and Suter are sorta in the same boat (Donato obviously having a better year offensively, but both guys are middle 6 depth players who can score). I get not wanting to enter the playoffs with 3 rookies in the forward group though.

At this point I'm very confident he gets at least a dman. Especially since he specifically said "You can never have enough defenders" when asked about his deadline plans just a few days ago

What would even be the ask from us for Rantanen? I'm assuming they want an extension price, not a rental? Sounds steep but the guy would be amazing here with Hintz.

LA will probably put the best offer forward as they want to sign him. Maybe Brandt Clarke?

Leafs probably offer up Cowan or Minten. We'd certainly have to offer up Stankoven or Bourque+ - probably a guy like Dadonov too. Can't see us realistically competing with those teams in terms of offers

Nill always loses out on these big guys in the end

I dont think we would compete with other offers, but my Guess would be a package of Borque, a 2026 1st, Dadonov and another B level prospect.

Maybe for Rantanen with retainment so we still have some cap room for a veteran defence add.

That's just my thought on a package required. I don't think at all Nill does it. I can't see a world where we resign Rantanen so I don't think he gives up a high calibre young player and a 1st for a rental.

Do we win the Cup if we did add Rantanen...maybe maybe do. That Top 9 would be off the charts

I wouldn't trade Borque for any rental.

TSN moved Rantanen from 19th to 1st on their trade bait board today.

They're also saying Toronto, Dallas, LA. They added New Jersey to that group and said there are others as well

One thing ive noticed is we are no longer seeing the Stars mentioned in the Brock Nelson rumors

It would be hilarious if Stars got Rantanen. Karma for them enjoying Val after he flopped with us, but I just don’t believe Nill will pull it off
